The typical lives of the soldiers fighting on the side of the United States were very machine-like, almost as if they what been told what to do and they performed. During the day, they set up their bunkers and go through some training. And at night, they are fighting in the silent night filled with the color orange, symbolizing fire. They strive to keep themselves alive another day; none of them know who might be living one day and dead the next.

The dangers the soldiers had to face included many because this was the first time America was in a jungle war. As buddies fell before sniper bullets, land mines, and booby traps, GIs grew increasingly frustrated by the demands of a war that seemed to be accomplishing few clear objectives. They had sixty-pound packs; they had to walk through jungles of ten-foot-tall elephant grass and across flooded rice paddies. They fought leeches, fever, and jungle rot.

Many American soldiers went to war enthusiastic about the job they were being asked to do. Many had dreamed of being heros when they grew up. Fighting conditions were way different then what they had seen in the movies, making many terrified of their futures. A lot of soldiers knew they were going to die and tried to their best for America.

The music of the era reflected the attitudes of this war in the country in the way that it was very upbeat in the beginning of the film and then towards the end it was more low-key. In the beginning of the war, the music was more upbeat to encourage the war feeling in the country, but then as reality came into play and they realized it wasn't an easy victory, people started to get sad with losing their loved ones, which was definitely incorporated within the music.

Write my Essay on english cheap

The soldiers wrote letters to their loved ones back home. They talk about their fears like Al, "Honey, I am so scared…we were hit by hundreds of rockets…I was lucky that I bent my head down. The general next to me wasn't that lucky. I had to help carry some wounded soldiers. It was an experience I could never forget or put in words." They talked about the troubles they had with the Vietnamese like Mike, "We can't tell between the good and bad Vietmanese. They are farmers by day and V.C. by night. They say "Me Vietnamese #1, no #10"." Others talked about the courageousness shown by the soldiers, "Morale is very high…Most men don't believe that we'll win the war, yet they all fight like they are the US's ultimate defense." Another example of what was written in the letters was Kevin talking about the psychological problems the soldiers faced, "I have not been hurt. But, all the death I've seen…I've aged. I'm an old man now. But, I'll never stop fighting." Another individual also recognized these problems by saying "The physical and human damage over the past couple of months has been so great…we're all in desperate need of love…I can't stand being all alone at night." Others had wrong feelings about the war like Phil when he said "…he was a good man [Lieutenant Scott]. But, he could understand the Why's of this way…this war is wrong." But the most touching one was the letter by the mother to her son, which basically stated how much she missed him and wish he was with her at this very moment, which was the case of many during this time. Many people lost a lot of their loved ones to this "conflict".

The title of my selection is When Grizzlies Walked Upright. It is an oral legend that was passed by from generation to generation and was later translated into English. Richard Erdoes and Alfonzo Ortiz also retold this story. The Genre of the story is Prose. It is also known as the Modoc story. It is somewhat like a creation story.

When Grizzlies Walked Upright is about how the Chief of the Sky Spirits was tired of his home in the Above World and decided to do something about if. So he carved a hole in the sky and created a great mound known today as Mount Shasta. He walked down onto the land and pointed to the ground and everywhere he pointed trees grew. The snow he stepped on as he made his way down melted and created the rivers.

The Sky Spirit broke the small end of the walking stick he held and threw it into the river, which made beavers, otters, and fish. The leaves that fell from trees turned into birds. The larger end of the stick was used to create the animals that walked the earth; the biggest were the grizzlies. The grizzlies looked the way they do now but walked on two feet and could talk. Their looks are what caused the Sky Spirit to send them to live in the forest.

The Sky Spirit decided to live with his family on the earth at the top of the mountain. He made a big fire in the center of the mountain and a hole in the top where smoke and sparks came out of, this was the creation of volcanoes.

Help with essay on When Grizzlies Walked Upright SummaryOne spring, the Sky Spirit and his family sat around the fire and a storm started. The Sky Spirit asked his daughter to ask the Wind Spirit to blow more gently and told her not to stick her head out of the top or she will be blown away. She told the Wind Spirit and then her curiosity got the better of her for wanting to see the ocean. She stuck her head out and was blown away. She landed at the base of the mountain.

A grizzly bear later found the little girl and brought her to live with him and his family. She grew up and she and the eldest son of the grizzly bears were married and had many children, who were not as hairy as the grizzlies but did not look like their mother, either. They moved into a lodge that is now called Little Mount Shasta.

Soon many years had passed and the mother grizzly knew she would die but feared asking the Chief of the sky to for giver her for keeping his daughter. She sent her oldest grandson to tell the Spirit Chief where to find his daughter. When her received the news he went to see his daughter he was angry that she had created a new race that was not of his making. He then cursed the grizzlies into walking on all fours and never talk again.

The Sky Spirit drove his grandchildren out of the lodge and carried his daughter back up the mountain. Never again did he come to the forest. His grandchildren wandered the earth and became the first Indians. The Indians living around Mount Shasta would never kill a grizzly bear and when a grizzly killed an Indian, his body was buried at the spot. For many years, all who pass by cast a stone there until a pile of stones marked the place of his death.

Dream of the Red Chamber is a book that has been under much analysis and study, and is considered to be one of the most famous Chinese books ever. The themes in the book are numerous, and the meanings are interpreted in more than one way. The main significance and storyline in the book, however, cannot be disputed, although it too can be looked at in more ways than one. The author used a mythical background to relate to the central story and relationship between Pao-Yu and Black Jade. In the beginning of the story, 6,501 blocks of jade were prepared by the Goddess of works to repair the heavens. Only one block of Jade was unused, and was therefore cast to the earth, and because it was spiritualized, it was it was a special stone that was sent to fulfill its destiny. Later on, the stone is found by a Buddhist and a Taoist, who see that the stone is not yet inscripted, meaning it has not yet fulfilled what it was set to do. The stone was said to be once roaming among the earth, and fell in love with a flower, which then turned into a girl. And in return for the stone's love for her, she said to the stone, "the moisture you have bestowed upon me here I will repay you in our future state with my tears! (Giles) Many years later, the stone was found again by a priest, who saw that the stone was now inscripted with a record of its existence. And the record then told the story of Pao-Yu and Black Jade.

Mythical ideas and concepts are used to help define the relationship between Black Jade and Pao-Yu. The stone seems to be the representation of the family of Pao-Yu and its experiences, but mostly it seems to be reincarnation of Pao-Yu himself, while the flower is the reincarnation of Black Jade. The stone was already fated since the beginning of the story to have a tragic experience, and the flower as well, since it is said that the flower will repay the stone "in our future state with my tears!" And the flower, in the state of Black Jade, does end up repaying the stone with tears, when she dies in sadness after she finds out that Pao-Yu is marrying another cousin. However, Pao-Yu does not realize that it is not Black Jade until he unveils her. Pao-Yu then runs away to the mountains, where it becomes a stone once again.

The one block of stone that was not used to repair the heavens was cast down to earth and was hurt because it was not used. The events that happened to the stone reflect the future events of the stone as Pao-Yu, who finds a beautiful girl, reflective of the flower he met in his past life, but their happiness is short-lived, because of the very nature of a flower. Like a flower, Black Jade was beautiful and in bloom, but only for a short time, and soon withering away. She was fragile in health, being struck by some disease, and because of her fragile nature, Pao-Yu's family did not want Pao-Yu marrying her, so instead set him to marry another cousin, Pao-Chai, and putting a veil over her. Write my Essay on dream of red chamber for me

The entire story of Pao-Yu and Black Jade is told through mythical concepts such as that of the stone, flower, and the Goddess of Works and the one black jade she cast down to earth. Pao-Yu and Black Jades' relationship is told through this mythical framework, and the outcome is exactly how the story unfolds; Tragic.

For Forester, owning land was not at all what he expected. By buying his new piece of land, Forster automatically became this person that he should be. In this society, the man with land never went to heaven, because he felt heavy, because they owned slaves, and owning slaves is not looked good upon from God. Through figurative language, references to the bible, word choice; Forster conveys his tone of sin and regret towards his current situation.

Forster's attitude of sin and regret are present when the author mentions how he feels about owning land and being a newly freed man. Forster "feel(s) heavy" now that he has his own land, and his present situation is almost "sinful" because men with land do not ascend into Heaven. Forster clearly allows the reader to know how he feels about who he has become. Forster is not pleased with himself, and he thinks now, becoming a hypocrite, owning land and slaves, will not be accepted into Heaven. Forster had no idea of the "difficulties" and "horrors" associated with being a free man. Now that Forster was free, he is welcomed into the real world, and many responsibilities accompany that welcome. Forster went out and bought land to make money off of, and he comes across obstacles such as asceticism, and having to choose his God.

Forster's use of figurative language is used in a broad range of ways, from simple similes, to developing an even bigger, more complex analogies, all tying in with the negative theme of sin and regret. "A comparatively slim camel passing through the eye of as needle and being woven into a robe" is used to portrait the allusion of little things in this world, all working for God, but Forster feels he has "failed," and will, ultimately, go to Hell. Working to fulfill God's purpose, a camel is able to squeeze through the tiny eye of a needle, because it is for God. The author regrets ever not working for God, and committing the sins he did, such as purchasing the land .

Making several biblical references through the passage helps certain people to better understand, and to produce more in-depth comparisons, with support from the bible which helps to develop the more sinful theme. Forster decides to make comparisons to the "Jordan" River and to "bathe" in it. Being cleaned in the river means that individual is sinless, but owning the land, one must own slaves to keep the land working right. There is no way a landowner could honestly cleanse himself while ordering slaves around at home, it is almost like leading two different lives. "The Gospels" are used to let people know what to do and what not to do, and most people find following the Gospel "difficult ground" to live on. Landowners automatically defy the Gospel by having slaves, no where in the Gospel does it say to have slaves, so the landowners already are in sin.

Foster's tools in developing the negative attitude towards his situation were figurative language, word choice and going back to biblical connections. Foster's figurative language not only is used to describe a certain occurrence, is also compares two different things to each other, but still ties in the theme of sin and regret. Using the bible, Foster was able to support his statements well, and even helped those who are familiar with the bible to better understand the author's meaning.

The Demon from Hell

Drugs can play dangerously with a persons mind and make demons come to life. In the story Where are you going, where have you been, a fifteen year old girl named Connie was addicted to music like a person addicted to cocaine, which put her into a fantasy world. The author Joyce Carol Oates suggests that Arnold Friend was a demonic figure from hell through his appearance, supernatural behaviors, and his origin.

In the story Arnold Friends appearance and clothing gives the readers clues that he was not a mortal person. It looked like he was wearing a mask on his face. It was very pale and looked like make-up had been plastered on. His skin was pale around his eyes, like holes that were not in shadow but instead in light. His lashes were thick and black as if painted with a black tar-like material. In the story Connie mentions that, his eyes were like chips of broken glass that caught the light in an amiable way (Oates 458). She also said that he had a sleepy, dreamy smile, which had a hypnotic effect on her. Arnolds clothing was very unusual. He wore metallic sunglasses that Connie couldnt see his eyes. He was very mysterious. He had shaggy black hair,

which looked crazy as a wig. He stuffed his boots to make him taller. He couldnt walk, he wobbled holding on to objects to keep him from falling.

Arnold Friend had supernatural behaviors. He had knowledge that no one else could of obtain. He told Connie, I know your name and all about you. He knew that the rest of the family that day was at Aunt Tillies for a barbecue and he knew exactly what they were doing at the exact time. He had x-ray vision and saw through town that they were sitting around drinking. He saw that Connies sister was wearing a blue dress and her mom was helping Mrs. Hornsby husk the corn. He also knew about the dead old woman with the chickens that had lived down the road. He also had a hypnotic voice that put her into a trance like the man on the radios. When Connie ran into the kitchen and picked up the telephone Arnold used his supernatural powers to make her feel faint, dizzy, and too weak to dial the numbers. While Arnold was talking to Connie outside he drew an X with his finger that symbolized that she was his target and it still stayed visible in the air while his finger was no longer there.

Lastly, where was Arnold from? He came from no where, but of course, hell

She had the idea that he had driven up the driveway all right but had come from nowhere before that and belonged nowhere and that everything about him and even about the music that was so familiar to her was only half real. (Oates 460)

Santek

He came to town with a jalopy convertible painted gold and at the front fender was an expression that said - MAN THE FLYING SAUCERS, which symbolized that he wasnt from earth.

As we can see Joyce Carol Oates used a lot of symbolism and clues that Arnold Friend was really a demonic figure through his appearance, his supernatural powers, and his origin. We could only use our imagination to know the ending of the story. Connie was a beautiful young girl that became engulfed and addicted to music which put her into a fantasy world that only led her down a deadly road to nowhere.

shown that first born children are more responsible, rational and view the world as more predictable. They are likely to be independent, ambitious and more sensitive to social acceptance. This is because as the eldest in family there are made responsible for other members during the absence of the father. Parents serve as a models with which children strongly identify.

Family does contribute to the development of personality of the individual. For example, the common incidence occuring in most family, during the adolescent period an individual personality is in a crucial stage, at this point of time the family either recognizes the individual as a child nor an adult. When an individual tries to comment on certain family happenings, the parent snub him by says he is still a child, but whom in a different circumstance the same individual is asked to behave like an adult. This type of conflict will create a confusion in individual mind regarding his behaviour and most often he withdraws in to his own shell. This will later reflect in his social behaviour. Is there any correlation between biological as well as environmental factors and personality.

There is a definite correlation between biological, culture and environmental factors on personality. Personality is the combination of physical appearance, intelligence, emotionality, communication and interpersonal relationship. Interpersonal relation and communication are two factors that is being influenced by family at large. Gone are those days when the parents forced children to move in, when visitors come to the house, at present, children are asked to stay back when visitors come to the home and they do have an interaction with them there by, their social interaction skill is sharpened, this is a major change in the culture, physical appearance do contribute to a major extend, environmental factors like excessive competition in most of the fields, have an excessive bearing are the individuals personality. Can you throw some light on personality development?

Personality development is caused with the process by which individual gradually acquire patterns of overt behavior, thinking, problem solving and above all motives, emotions, conflicts, and ways of coping with conflicts that will go to make up their adult personalities. Most of the personality development of which we talk today is only personality modification.

When Individual express new behavior he is confronted with anxiety, caused by doubts whether the behavior will be successful and bring the expected results. The anxiety creates a block in exhibiting the behavior. Personality development programs help the individuals to overcome the anxiety and reinforce the successful behavior .

Personality development takes place through out the life - span of the individuals. As the environment changes personality also must change , personality development is the process where individual learns to change keeping culture and family intact.

defense system; his first was back in 175 under the command of President Ford. Mr.

Rumsfeld failed at his first attempt because the high cost of unexplored technology

was an inevitable set back. Twenty - five years later, "Rummy" as friends call him,

was back and presenting a whole new front. President Bush committed to the project

with no limits regarding cost or technology. Now that a successful missile defense was

possible it seemed as if it was essential to America's national security.

The real question now lies at Rumsfeld's feet, will this gamble pay off?

Because of the lack of political will to construct a successful missile shield, Thompson

explains, the Clinton administration claimed many criticizers. Realistically speaking

the United States' only guarantee specifies that this project will take time, however,

technologically speaking the success of this missile shield is billions upon billions of

dollars away.

The belief that a strong missile defense is needed is rather low consequently

based on Clinton's two failing trials previously. However, Bush and Rumsfeld were

given the go - sign to begin research on how to improve Clinton's methods.

The task now at hand is playing the part of a salesman. Although the mood

overseas is quite faint, Rumsfeld and his highly lucrative diplomats are continuing to

spread out all over the world in hopes of making believers of this missile shield. As an

incentive, Thompson remarks, President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair have

agreed to reduce their nuclear weapons stock pile to entice both allies and foes into

embracing a more defensive strategic balance.

Briggs

Critics are quick to analyze by asking, "This is not the old Star Wars idea of a

shield that will keep everything off of everyone in the world?" Rumsfeld replied by

exclaiming that this system, if successful, will persuade countries or terrorists against

blackmailing and intimidating the United States and its allies.

It is the belief of China that this "Star Wars" idea would trigger a new arms

race across the world. China described their missiles as specs of sawdust in

comparison to two by fours against the United State's possible new system. Despite

the opinion that this action would force China to produce more nuclear arms, forcing

India to produce more nuclear arms, which would force Pakistan to produce more

nuclear arms; Moscow seemed suprisingly calm. President Putin of Russia holds the

belief that the world is forever changing and many new and improved defenses are

necessary.

The only downside that the United States is truly pondering at this time is the

extreme cost. Disregarding all public opinion, the Pentagon figures that this project

will cost roughly five to ten billion dollars annually over the next twenty years. The

whole world is eagerly waiting too see what the United States will do, Describes

Thompson, but for now Rummy seems to have caught the world's ears.

The war against Iraq seems to be the most urgent topic and concern all over the world. There are different views on the problem, but the world can be divided into major groups nowadays into those who are for this war and those against it and their opinion can be either pro- or anti-American government policy.

Most American citizens are inclined to support the war. They believe it's important that the threaten to their freedom and happiness be destroyed since the U.S. is the land of the dream that life can be better, richer and fuller for everybody, and anything that may intervene or stand in the way to their happiness and liberty should be eliminated. Moreover, those soldiers in the Gulf believe they are risking their lives on behalf of all American citizens with wholehearted and passionate conviction that they are making the world a better place for American citizens everywhere.

From the position of the war opponents that is a mistake, a deceitful idea and they are just misled by the President and the government of the U.S. Besides that, thinking or talking about the reason for the war one can get really confused. The outcome is really uncertain. Mr. Bush says that this is for the sake of America, it's freedom, but there is something else that drives him and American government the money and the desire to control the world's oil supply for the benefit of America. It's unfair. Saddam is considered to be the greatest enemy of the U.S., though there are many other 'bad' people all over the world that Mr. Bush seems to have forgotten about. Why doesn't he fight against Ben Laden? Why doesn't he fight against the North Korea's leader? The answer is simple in my opinion. Not the security of the U.S. is the top priority and the main purpose of the war, but money and oil. Actually, the economy of the U.S. and its role in the world community is at stake. Unlike those who are for the war those who are against it insist that the war be the greatest mistake ever made in American and world history. The military action is being fulfilled against the world public opinion, against the principles and norms of international law and the Charter of the United Nations; it can't be justified based on the publicly available evidence of the weapons of mass destruction. Moreover, the desire of the American president to change the political regime contradicts international law and should be determined only by the citizens of the country.

Eventually, a big debate based on the views on policy towards Iraq is still going on; however, what really makes sense is that every day people perish behind this sharp dispute and their families face a terrible tragedy. The news from the Gulf is painful; this war is a test not only for those fighting for America in Iraq, but for America itself, for its people. Hopefully, it will bring people together and make them focus on what is most important, the sense of unity. The U.S. has the finest opportunities for life, liberty and happiness, it's a land where everybody is free to chase dreams of fortune or just follow a personal vision of how life should be lived and no matter what the President, the government and the citizens of the U.S. should be careful and try to avoid going to too painful extremes.

First Baby

The instant I found out I was having a baby for the first time; anxieties of what was to come were overwhelming. I was nineteen years old, unmarried, and scarred to death of forever being someone's mother. It was February 17, 15 when the doctor came in the exam room and confirmed the results of the pregnancy test. At that moment I grasped what was to occur being discomforts, inevitable changes in the body, doctor's visits and difficulties that may arise in the course of pregnancy until delivery.

During the months that followed life was fairly normal. Morning sickness was non-existent and working a job was still possible until maternity leave was available. As the changes with my body began taking place during the second trimester of pregnancy, I realized my clothing was not fitting anymore and I was tired all the time. Now that it was physically obvious that I was pregnant no longer could I sleep on my stomach, tying my shoes was virtually impossible and standing for long periods of time was becoming extremely taxing. Family and friends constantly wanted to rub my tummy to make the baby kick. Feeling my baby move inside my body is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

Doctor visits were routine, during the first trimester they were once a month, involving weighing in as well as performing sonograms on baby to ensure proper development and learning the proposed due date. Approaching the second trimester, appointments were scheduled every other week; it was at this point in

the pregnancy that I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat. As the third trimester began I was seeing the doctor every week. Normally, that is not the case however I had become "high risk" having developed a condition known as gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes can be harmful to the fetus, in the sense that, if the mother does not monitor her blood sugar at birth the child can go into what is known as "sugar shock". I was required to test my blood sugar daily and bring those readings along when I attended doctor appointments. In the course of my third trimester I also learned the sex of my child.

Tuesday, September 1, 15 was the day of reckoning, or so I thought. I was scheduled to be at the hospital at six o'clock in the morning to begin the labor process and have my baby. I arrived on time and was subsequently whisked off to my room to embark on a journey that would forever change my life. The nurses prepared me for the doctor who emerged at eight thirty in the morning to break my water. Around ten thirty the anesthesiologist came to administer the epidural. Several friends and family members arrived to offer support, encouragement in addition to presents for the baby. I was in labor for approximately eight hours and delivered a healthy baby boy at four thirty five in the afternoon.

For the first time since being informed that I was pregnant, there was no fear, anxiety or worry. Looking at the magnificent creature that I had just given birth to was enough to take away all of my tribulations. My son weighed in at eight pounds and four ounces, was twenty one inches long, a head full of hair and the

most gorgeous skin ever seen. Even though there were many discomforts and some difficulties with the pregnancy, nothing was amiss with the baby. That was

almost eight years ago and a day that I will never forget how could I, it is also the day that I was born 0 years earlier!

In every person's life there are friends. I don't know of anyone who does not have friends. Within the group of friends there are always different "circles" or sub-categories of friends. First of all there are the everyday friends. These are those people that you see and talk to on a daily basis and are a major part of life. Then, there are the significant friends. These are the ones who you have made over the years that you never lose contact with. There are also the meaningful friends. Those that you have conversations with where you can reflect on your life in comparison to theirs. Or even make adjustments to your attitude that will prevent bad things from happening. Finally there are the adult friends. The people that your parents introduced you to when you were young that kept in contact with you when you started on your own. These are the friends that are there when you need advice, but not parental guidance.

Everyday friends are the people that you see on your way to class, or maybe in class. You eat lunch with them, or maybe go shopping a CD. They fill in the time between sleep, work, and meals. Let's face it, without them, you would have a pretty boring daily life. You wouldn't have anyone to listen to your stories about what happened this morning, or to listen about all the crap you have to do today with the little amount of time you have to do it.

Sometimes your significant friends are part of that "crap" you have to do today. Usually these friends are contacted via e-mail or long-distance phone call. You may have met them while in the military, while accompanying someone in the military, or through them accompanying someone in the military, and then moving to some far off place. These are the friends that it's good to hear from when you're having a bad day. They just want to know what's new in your life and for you to listen to what's new in theirs.

When things in your life just seem too much to handle you turn to your significant friends. You recount what's happening and then listen as they give you a solution to your problems. You try to poke holes in that solution just to see if they are paying attention. These friends are the patient types that always give you the advice that they see to be in your best interest, even if you can't see it. Sometimes the advice is on relationships; other times, it's how to spend your money. Still other times it's what they should do with their life in terms of occupation or studies. Any of the three require a friend who will selflessly give up a bit of time to help you.

The friends you make through your parents always seem to have time for you. Far from having nothing to do, as their circle is usually the busiest. No matter how busy they are they always seem to have time for the "young-ones". They are the people you turn to when it is necessary to keep things from your parents, but still need someone of more experience to guide you through a rough time. These are the friends that you can always have conversations with until your parents told you to leave the room so they could have a private conversation. In many ways they are usually your parents meaningful friends. They tend to develop into mutual friends, regardless of age.

Friends are important. They are the people that bring out the best in us. Without them where would we be? The world would be a cold and bitter place to face alone. Our friends, whether significant, insignificant, frequent, or fleeting are still friends. And they still help us deal with life to some degree or another.

Please note that this sample paper on Friends is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. After the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States, the U.S. government and its citizens need to consider all the necessary measures to insure homeland security by expelling all possible terrorists and terroristic groups from our country. Anti-terrorism measures can be a useful tool for sparking many U.S. citizens with patriotism and ethnic pride. By punishing terrorists and terrorist groups, it makes an example out of terrorists and will hopefully prevent terrorism in the future. Since this type of anti-terrorism action can sometimes inflict upon people's civil rights, it's important to ignore these petty freedoms temporarily for the greater good of the country; insuring national security.

Measures of anti-terrorism are not only keeping our nation safe, they're an ideal way for citizens to display their patriotism and ethnic pride. A new bill, with a rather fitting name, has been passed in congress in order to crack down on terrorism. "The Patriot Act, as Bush puts it, will give intelligence and law enforcement officials new tools to fight a present danger." (Collins, 1). Such legislature as this is sure to bring out the best of American's white Christian population. Surely it will be easier to spot those nasty terrorists as the ones showing the least patriotic enthusiasm. What's that? You don't have an American flag on your car? You're of Islamic descent? Why then you must be a terrorist!

Anti-terrorism techniques are tools to insure such terroristic acts will never happen again. Showing terrorists no mercy today will instill fear in any possible future terrorists. Proof of this fact lies in the aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. After the Japanese attack, Japanese-Americans were heavily discriminated against and sometimes forced into internment camps. "The 'sense of panic' people felt 'became racialized.' Rumors spread that Japanese Americans were working with the Japanese Navy." (Wu, 1). Certainly this action brought fear to Japanese-Americans and discouraged them from speaking out against the U.S.

The civil rights issues that are usually brought up at times like these should be temporarily pushed aside in an attempt to seek out the true terrorists. Perhaps in anti-terrorism measures some people will be wrongly accused or have their rights violated. In making sure our airports remain free of terrorists, certain people will need to be stopped and searched. Considering the stereotypical profile of a terrorist, it makes perfect sense to stop and question more Arab men than six-year old girls. Walter C. Wright shares the same opinion in his essay Fair Profiling. "In my opinion, federal officials responsible for airport security should focus on security, and not be overly concerned about the political correctness of 'profiling.'" (Wright, 1) So maybe a few people will be offended. So what! You have to ask yourself what is more important, a safe country free from terrorism, or a few sissy civil rights.

Whoever is so enlightened as to read this inspiring piece of patriotic writing needs to act now. Right now there are thousands of potential terrorists in our country plotting their next attack. I urge the general public to start displaying their true patriotism; even if it might come at the cost of blatant, random, accusations, mild racism, or a bit of anti-semitism. It is up to the liberal thinkers of our age to fight this war on terrorism! Will you be one of them?

Literature aims to entertain and inform, discuss this quotation with reference to a novel you have studied.

The aim of literature is to entertain and inform. We see this in the novel 'Snow Falling on Cedars' by David Guterson. Guterson uses stylistic language techniques to capture the reader and involve them in the text. By integrating flash backs into the murder mystery genre, the characters are made three dimensional, and the reader becomes involved. The story informs the reader by integrating important themes into the text.

Literature aims to entertain. 'Snow Falling on Cedars' is entertaining because it is written in such a way that the reader becomes involved with the characters. Guterson uses metaphors of the surrounding area, to give insight into the characters. For example, the radiator in the courtroom is sluggish and slow to get started, and is in a state of disrepair. This is a metaphor for the townsfolk, and by using it, Guterson has made the reader link the two together. Through using descriptive metaphors in the early stages of the book, when the same character traits are brought up later, they already feel familiar to the reader. The book is well written in the murder mystery genre, which creates suspense. The plot draws and captivates the reader. Guterson integrates flashbacks from different character perspectives, which make the murder mystery more intriguing. These flashbacks hold in them vital clues and insights to the plot and the reader is forced to think. The layers of plot are gradually built up, giving the book a three dimensional quality. Subtle clues given by the author create a question about Kabuo's innocence. This question creates curiosity in the mind of the reader, who is entertained by the suspense and drama, and finally the conclusion.

Do my essay on Snow Falling on Cedars CHEAP !

Literature also aims to inform. Through different characters experiences in 'Snow Falling in Cedars', Guterson subtly informs the reader of several strong themes. The rising snowstorm is a metaphor for the building tension between the two communities on the island, and through this and Ishmael and Hatsue's relationship we are shown racial tension. Through Carl and Kabuo's lost friendship, Ishmael's missing arm, Whaley's personality, and the racial prejudice shown by the townsfolk, we are shown the impacts of war, both on communities and individuals. These are the prominent themes in the book, although Guterson weaves several others in as well. Through the suggested incompetence of the lawyers and law enforcers, and the run down courtroom, Guterson questions the human ability to pass judgement accuracy. Ishmael's phantom pains in his missing arm are a metaphor for his heart, which still aches for Hatsue, even though she is long gone. This and the comparison between Ishmael and Carl highlights the theme that we need to learn and move on. These themes are interlaced and layered throughout the text unobtrusively, but in such a way that at the end of the book, the reader subconsciously takes away a new understanding of people and their cultures.

'Snow Falling on Cedars' is a good example of Literature that entertains and informs. The way it is crafted in layers, using a good murder mystery plot with stylistic language makes it entertaining. The subtle integration of theme into this plot gives the reader a better understanding at the end of the story. The reader is captivated and this is what makes it such a good read.

Everyday she would stand outside on the balcony of what she liked to call, her dream house. She would just stand there everyday to hear the birds chirping, to watch the palm trees sway from side to side as the wind blew roughly; the sound of the water as it splashed back and forth. A little girl so young of the age of eight would just stand there everyday thinking; thinking of her dad and when he was going to return.

She lived in a three story, light pink colored house in the Dominican Republic, a little island south of the United States. There she lived with her mother; father, brother, sister, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She would go horseback riding everyday with her father on the horses that they owned on the farm. And then he would take her for a spin on his fast racing motorcycle. They would go out onto the field and pick fresh vegetables and fruits together. For that little eight year old girl, it was fun because to her anything she did with her daddy was her idea of fun. For many years they went on the same way; horseback riding; motorcycle riding; going places together; doing things together. To that little girl everything was like a dream come true. Her daddy was not just her father but her best friend.

It was one rainy afternoon; the eight year old girl was standing there outside on the balcony of her three stories, light pink colored house. She was there as usual thinking of her daddy and when he was going to come home. That night that little girl waited for hours and hours and her daddy did not show. Shaken and worried, she finally ran inside to her mother and asked her mother, "Mommy, mommy, why isn't daddy home yet?" Mother thought and thought to herself how she was going to explain to her little eight

year old daughter where her daddy was. The father had been taken by the police that morning to jail for a consecutive of five years. The police had visited the mother that afternoon at her job to inform her of what had happened and why. The entire time all the mother could think was how she was going to tell all this to her eight year old little girl. Voice cracking with tears in her eyes, the little girl asked again, "Mommy, mommy, why isn't daddy home yet?" Mother looked and faced her daughter and sat her down on the coach and told her, "Sweetie, daddy won't be coming home for a while." The little girl with sadness in her voice looked at her mother and gave her a hug and a kiss and just turned toward the door and went back out to the balcony. She stood out there thinking to herself and how she knew that her daddy would come back. She didn't know and didn't want to know the reasons that her daddy didn't come home that night. All that she could think of was that she knew he would come back home.

As the years went on that little girl thought and thought about her daddy. Knowing that her daddy would come back one day just made her stronger. Her mom helped her to become a strong, independent woman. Till this day that little girl remembers that very night that her daddy never returned home. The little girl, that isn't little anymore has come to accepting the fact that her daddy has not and will not come home. But throughout it all, she has grown; and learned so much about life. That little girl that used to stand outside on the balcony everyday waiting for her daddy to come home has made herself better by her experience. She took her daddy's example and has decided to makes something wonderful of herself.

Macbeth

The play Macbeth takes place in the overcast country of Scotland. This

layer of fog never seems to ever leave the country or its surrounding Help with essay on Macbethhorizon. The green country side has many hills but barely any trees. The

hills throughout the country side girdle the green valleys any way you look.

From one end of Scotland to the other many little lakes and ponds rest

upon the land in the humid atmosphere. The unruffled sand that lies by

these lakes and ponds speculate an appealing image of a quiet unruffled body

of water. All through the land there are a few slender dirt path ways that

men use to ride there horses on their ways to another city or just to go

hunting. In addition, atop the land and in the hills are many large

boulders that give the dull setting an even blunter look.

The castles displayed in this play are made of huge grey stone that range

in sizes, depending on their location in the castle. The big stoned grey

castle was on a large hill and was hard to get to. There was a tower at

each corner of the castle, with cone shaped brown wooden roofs. At the

entrance of the castle there was a massive portcullis that was made of iron.

There were many designs made out of the black iron, and the portcullis was

opened by pulling down a lever that pulled it up. Directly behind the

portcullis was a huge wooden door that has many colorful decorations on it.

This was opened by pulling the sliding doors back. The stone around the

entrance way was small pieces of grey stone that was set in a repetitive

pattern. On either side of the entrance way was big stone walls that piled

up a lot higher than the portcullis. As you walk into the castle there is a

big empty square that is enclosed by the four outer parts of the castle. In

the castle square there are many wagons filled with wood, animals, servants,

carriages, and other castle items. There are many entrances to the castle

from the castle square. The entrance to where the king goes has a ramp with

a wooden railing, and grey stone steps that get smaller as they go up. The

stairs and ramp lead to a archway with heavy lip grey rock. The archway

leads into the castle, and the ceiling appears to be decorated in

astonishing white marble, cut into smaller pieces to form designs. The main

entrance arch is enormous compared to the king’s archway, with huge grey

stones that are about two meters long and a half meter thick. A successive

wooden balcony surrounds the inside square walls with blue banners hanging

over the wooden railing. This balcony is what connects the rooms, and

people can access each room connected by the balcony. In the dining room,

long wooden tables were set up so the king was at the head of the table and

the other noble men along side the other tables. A big clean white table

cloth lies upon each table with a great amount of food atop of it. Banners

hang from the grey stone walls of the dining hall.

The witches cave is very secretive and mysterious. As you walk into the

cave it is poorly lit, and is very dark. A big chamber pot lies in the

middle of the cave where the witches usually stand making magical potions.

A vast quantity of smoke is real eased from the pot and is carried thought

the whole cave. In addition, a slight green light is given off from the

potions and reflects off the smoke giving the cave and eerie look. The

witches cave and all other settings in the play Macbeth give the play its

own unique environment.

The issues that this article deals with are those related to the textile, clothing and footwear industry. The main point raised is that of an assistance package, which the cabinet is due to approve by November. Another issue raised is the effect that the proposed tariff reductions will have on the business and the amount of employees within this sector.

In the article Paul Moore, CEO of Pacific Brands, states "Lower tariffs will mean job cuts…we have done enough restructuring…we prefer to make our products here, but if they force us overseas, then we'll go." The Australian industry is worried about the tariffs as it will make the goods coming into Australia cheaper which may also lead to consumers buying overseas products rather than those made in Australia. However, is a positive move as it will make Australia more competitive within the TCF industry. It is hard to compete with labour intensive countries such as those within Asia as they have an extremely labour intensive population and therefore labour is cheap and plentiful. Overseas investors are drawn to those countries as it is cheap for them to produce and there is no minimum wage or specific working conditions.

The govt. is hoping that by reducing tariffs that our TCF industry will gain international competitiveness and it may also lead to overseas countries reducing the tariffs on our exports. Even though it may at first lead to a decrease in revenue for the govt. they are hoping it will later increase.

The govt. is responding to the issue of international competitiveness and imposing these tariffs as a result. The textile, clothing and footwear industry is worth $6 billion and is therefore a large part in the revenue we produce. In the December quarter of 001 alone Australia manufactured $,6m in exports.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Tariffs still suit shrinking textile sector

Since the early 10's the percentage of household expenditure on TCF's dropped from 4. to . per cent, while value added fell by 4 per cent in real terms. Although as tariffs on imported clothes have fallen from 55 per cent in 10 to 5 per cent today, and form 45 per cent to 15 per cent on footwear, the market share of imported clothing has gone form 1 per cent to 45 per cent, and from 6 per cent to 65 per cent for imported footwear and leather goods. This, however, has led to a 40 per cent drop in employment by TCF manufacturing firms to about 58,000 people by June 001.

The govt. is now planning another round of tariff cuts, and the largest package this industry has ever received- a five year, $678m subsidy scheme. The cabinet is also set to approve a new industry plan by November. The govt. is trying to get our manufacturing companies to focus on the Niche markets within the manufacturing industry, e.g. RM Williams boots and Drizabone clothing, in order to compete, as we are never going to be able to compete against our Asian competitors by making shirts and singlets.

Although unions within the TCF industry will try to appeal it, the govt. is still going to go ahead with the tariff cuts. This, although it may lead to some unemployment, will allow us to become a great deal more competitive within the industry, and against our Asian neighbours. The govt is using its assistance package to try sustaining employment within the industry.

Module A

1)After looking at different definitions I think this one is the best. Management is the process of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the use of resources to accomplish performance goals. Organization is a collection of people working together in a division of labor to achieve a common purpose (Schermerhorn 00).

)There are three different levels of management. The highest level of management is the top level. The purpose of the top level of management is to determine the broad objectives and procedures necessary to meet the goals established by the board of directors. The top level consists of presidents, executive vice-presidents, and senior vice-presidents. The second level of management is the middle management. This level is responsible for developing operational plans and procedures to implement the broader ones conceived by the top management. This level consists of vice-presidents, directors, and superintendents. The lowest level is operating management. It includes managers, section chiefs, and general supervisors. Operational managers are mostly concerned with putting into action operational plans devised by middle managers (Wells, 1).

)There are five different functions of management. They include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. Planning is the process of setting objectives and determining what should be done to accomplish them. Organizing is the process of arranging people and resources to work toward a common purpose. Staffing involves stationing people to work in the position provided for by the organizational structure. Directing is the assignment of different jobs and instructing workers on what should be done. Controlling is the process of measuring performance and taking action to ensure desired results (Schermerhorn 00).

4)The principles of organization planning that are significant to the air carriers are Unity of Objectives which says that each unit of the company no matter how small must contribute to the accomplishment of goals. Span of Control states that a supervisor can only effectively supervise so many workers before an additional supervisor is needed. Departmentalization is dividing people and functions into groups this will allow them to specialize. Delegation of Authority is allowing people that are capable at the lower end to make certain decisions. Clearly defined duties states that each job should be clearly defined so that it does not overlap with any other jobs. Flexibility is what allows the companies to survive during the changing times. The company must be able to adapt internally and externally. Communication states that there should be a two way flow of communication between the top management and rest of the organization. This flow must be uninterrupted (Wells, 1).

5)Line and Staff organizations are two ways that an organization labels their authority structure. In the line organization the orders come straight from the top down to the people that need to accomplish certain tasks. While in a Staff organization the orders don't flow in a straight line from the top. Although in a staff organization the workers do report to a specific person they may also perform work for people above or below them.

Section One.

The country of Barbados is a Constitutional Monarchy, but it has a Parliamentary Democracy as a form of government. Barbados is divided into eleven parishes. The eleven parishes are Christ Church, Saint Andrew, Saint George, Saint James, Saint John, Saint Joseph, Saint Lucy, Saint Michael, Saint Peter, Saint Philip, and Saint Thomas. That is not including the city of Bridgetown.

There are two major political parties. They are the Barbados Labor Party and the Democratic Labor Party. The prime minister is the leader of the majority party in the House of Assembly, and he also manages the finance of the country. The House of Assembly houses twenty-seven seats. The Senate houses twenty-one appointed members.

Section Two.

Cheap Custom Essays on Barbados

Barbados was owned by the British during the 1600's. It was a British colony until internal autonomy was granted in 161. The country is still tied to the British monarch. The independence of Barbados was gained from British. on November 0th, 166. That date is also the independence celebration day for Barbados. Even though there are no accurate records to confirm the exact date of discovery of this small island. We know that it was named after a bearded fig tree.

Section Three.

The current leader of Barbados is Governor General Sir Clifford Straughn Husbands. He was born on August 5th, 16 in the parish of Saint Andrew. He is married to Ruby C.D. Parris. In London, he entered the Middle Temple and studied law and order. When he returned to Barbados around 160, he became assistant to the Attorney General and Legal Draftsman. In 167, he became the director of Public Prosecutions. In 168, He was admitted to be added to the Queen's Counsel. In 11, He honorably became the Justice of Appeal. Finally, June 1st, 16, he was sworn in as Governor General.

Section Four.

Barbados has respect for basic human rights. There are not many unusual rights. They pretty much have the same rights that we have here in the United States. They have the freedom of religion. Which is really rare in most small countries. The government does not have a law dealing with refugee as of this time. Citizens in Barbados have the right to change their government, like we do.

Children are provided education until the age of sixteen. The national health insurance program provides free medical and dental care for almost every situation. There are still problems with children being abused, but those problems are being resolved.

There is freedom of speech and press. Authorities do or are suppose to respect these rights to be practiced publicly. There are two daily newspapers that have government opinions. Barbados government does not restrict academic freedom.

Section Five.

I would have to heavily consider the decision of either living under this government or not. It's hard to just leave the state, but when you are under a whole new government and in a completely different atmosphere. It does get pretty intimidating. I love being at "home," and I love the way our government works. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like, if things in the United States were different.

I don't like the idea of having a queen be the head of state. I am also confused with their political parties. It seems to me that the Governor General and the President basically do the same thing. In both countries, you would have to be at least eighteen years old to cast a vote. It is a very small island, but they have a very demanding constitution. Their constitution is much like the one we have in the United States. Their government is just another form of democracy. www.yahoo.com

Benedict gretton

Investigation in to microphones

We were asked, in groups, to record a piece of music. My group consisted of Liam, Dave, Paul, and me.

The piece of music had to be at least two minutes long. Are aim was to make the best quality recording possible. This was to be achieved only by our choice and placement of microphones. We were not allowed to use any effects, EQ, dynamic processing etc.

Order College Papers on Investigation into microphones

Our recorded piece of music had to consist of at least four different instruments made up of the following,

·At least one collective instrument

·At least one vocal

·At least one acoustic instrument

·At least one amplified, miced up electric instrument

Instrument recorded

Overheads on drum kit (collective instrument)

Microphones used

AKG C-000

For the overheads we first used two Audio Technica pro 7r microphones. These are small diaphragm condenser mics. We found that there was a rumble being picked up so we changed them to a larger diaphragm mic, the AKG C- 000 we used the lo-cut switches to avoid the rumble.

We placed the two overheads about six ft above the drum kit facing down towards the drummer.

Instrument recorded

Snare drum (collective instrument)

Microphone used

Shure SM58

We chose the SM58 because it is a dynamic microphone there for it is strong and would not break if the drummer accidentally hit it. We placed the mic facing the rim of the snare drum about an inch and a half away.

Instrument recorded

Bass drum (collective instrument)

Microphone used

Audio Tecnica pro 5

We chose the pro 5 because it is a large diaphragm dynamic microphone. Dynamic mics can cope with higher SPL signals, which meant it could cope with being placed inside the bass drum.

We positioned the microphone about 7 inches inside the drum.

Instrument recorded

Acoustic guitar

Microphone used

AKG C-414

We first put two mics on the guitar. We placed the C/414 on the neck of the guitar and a Shure SM 58 on the body. The SM 58 was getting to much of a boomy sound so we decided to use just the AKG C-414.

We placed the mic on the neck of the guitar to get a better sound.

Instrument recorded

Electric guitar

Microphone used

AKG C-414

We chose this mic because we felt it would give us the warmest, clearest sound.

We placed the mic facing the rim of the speaker cone on the amp about an inch away.

Instrument recorded

Vocals

Microphone used

Shure SM 58

We placed the microphone behind a pop shield about four inches away from the vocalist.

Instrument recorded

Bass guitar

Microphone used

Shure SM58

We chose the SM58 to record the bass guitar because it gave us the best quality sound.

We placed the mic on the rim of the speaker cone about three inches away.

Common Links between Arthur Miller and Steven Crane

Many authors, though from different times and writing periods, have similar elements in their literary works. It is interesting to look at the resemblances between writers and their stories. There are two books I have read in the past month that show these connections clearly. They are The Crucible by Arthur Miller and Maggie by Steven Crane. The Crucible and Maggie are analogous because they allude to the personal experiences of their respective authors, the native dialect of the characters in the stories is used, and both authors are concerned with the individual.

Arthur Miller used his experience being persecuted in the Communist witch hunt of the 150s to tell the story of the Salem Witch Hunt of the 160s. Like Miller, Crane used his experiences living in the Bowery to tell the story of a poor Irish girls downfall. Miller uses archaic words and expressions in parts of his tale, and Crane uses the Irish dialect of the Bowery in all of the dialogue. Both authors are concerned with the individual, but in different ways. Miller was a social dramatist, which means he dealt with the behavior of the individual and their various responses in different situations. This is shown in many ways, but one of the major ones is the girls reactions to being caught dancing in the woods. Abigail made up stories of bewitchment by the family slave, Tituba, while Betty pretended to be sick and unconscious when around adults. Crane believed that a person could not overcome their environment and was interested in the effects environment has on a persons life. The plot is basically centered around this part of the book, because although Maggie is a blossom in a mud puddle she still cannot escape her bad upbringing.

In the two books, The Crucible and Maggie, a few of these parallels are allusions to personal experiences of their authors, the characters native dialect is used, and the authors use their works to examine the individual. In the writing of this paper, not only did I see these comparisons and textual examples, I saw many more as well. One will find that authors tend to have certain similarities. Whether it is that these parallels are the key to being a great author, or if it is that the authors just have similar writing styles, I do not know. I can only say that all of these things and more help to bring the reader into the story and allow the avid reader to pick them out and take a look at what they see. In this case, I saw the aforementioned comparisons, and I will continue to search for more.Write my Essay on Common Links Between Arthur Miller and Steven Crane for me
