Calvin Coolidge, the thirtieth president, once said, "Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas." If a pre-schooler was asked what Christmas is, he or she would simply respond with Santa Claus, but if an adult was asked the same question, the answer would vary from a time to give to the less fortunate to a time to spend with your loved ones. Christmas means many things other than the birth of Christ. So what is Christmas?

Christmas is a kid's season, with presents and Santa Claus. Christmas and Santa Claus go hand-in-hand. At malls across the country, Santa imitators are found taking pictures with kids and asking them what they want for Christmas, putting the kids on cloud nine. Little kids cannot be happier than when they are perched on Santa's big red thighs, telling Santa what they want for Christmas. For little kids, Santa isn't just a seasonal symbol, but he exists, and really does come down the chimney on Christmas. He eats the homemade cookies, and drinks the glass of milk. Then, he leaves the gifts before moving onto the next house. The little kids awake to find their stockings stuffed and hung above the fireplace, and gifts of every shape and size neatly placed underneath the well decorated, glistening Christmas Tree. To a kid, that is all Christmas is about.

Christmas is music and movies. Christmas has more songs than any other holiday. Radio stations, such as 104., only play Christmas songs during the couple of weeks before

Christmas, to go along with the handful of versions of every Christmas songs. Christmas always has more movies than any other holiday. The movies are usually watched during that time

between thanksgiving and Christmas, but those movies are watched over and over again. A Christmas Story, a humorous movie about a young boy's Christmas, is played for twenty-four hours each year on Christmas, and each year still receives high ratings.

Christmas is white and cold. Christmas is walking outside and the air being so cold outside that it takes a person's breath away, and on each exhale, all that is seen is a cloud of vapor. The sidewalks and streets are blanketed with white, fluffy snow, twinkling underneath the gleaming sun. Freshly fallen snow sits perched on every tree branch, weighing each arm down. Snowmen of different sizes, and made with different household items stand in front of houses throughout the neighborhoods.

Christmas is the number one shopping season. Someone once said, "Before Christmas says hello, it is already saying Buy, Buy." The day after Thanksgiving, the "Christmas Shopping Season" officially starts. And for almost a month, people are crammed into every mall like sardines. Christmas is always associated with buying gifts for everyone that is close to you. In 17, an estimated thirty-four percent of the people spent between five hundred and a thousand dollars, and forty-eight percent of those people did all their shopping in December. With inflation and an economy that is only becoming more materialistic, these numbers are only going to increase throughout the years.

Christmas is a spirit. Christmas time is said to be the time for caring, and it is better to give than receive. During this season, clothes and food are raised to give to the needy. This kind of effort to help the less fortunate is on such a large scale only during the Christmas season.

Schools only make an attempt to contribute to the community during this time. Henry Ford II High School has a can food drive, a clothing drive, and a toy drive. Each drive is very effective;

the can food drive raises more than twelve thousand cans, the toy drive raises more than a thousand toys, and the clothing drive raises more than six hundred articles of clothing..

Christmas is more than just the birth of Christ. It's a time to be spent with your loved ones, a time to give to the less fortunate, and a time to take in all the extras, like music, movies, and stories, that the Christmas season has to offer. A person can take in the Christmas spirit and enjoy the season, or just simply say Bah Humbug to the season. Christmas is a commercial holiday filled with love, lights, laughter and lots of shopping.

Goals and Dreams How I Have Tried To Find Them

Since I was a small child I have had a dream of working as some type of medical professional. Because of many different life changing

events it has taken me many years to begin this wonderful journey towards obtaining my Nursing Degree. Being able to go back to school has

Cheap University Papers on Goals and Dreams: How I Have Tried to Find Them

been a main focus of mine for many years. Everytime I thought it was a good time to go back something in my life changed. Here I am finally

able to get my education so that I can finally reach my goals.

In high school I took all of my college preperation courses to help prepare me for the classes that I would be taking in college. The

classes were all hard but I managed to keep a B average so that I could get into a good school and program. My senior year in high school I

had a tragic occurence in my life and I ended up quicking high school. I knew that statistics showed that most high school drop outs never

return to get there diploma or GED if they had been out more than a year. So, the day that I withdrew from school I decided that I was going to

get my GED within a month. I left the high school and went directly to the GED testing center and signed up. I had to take a pretest before they

would sign me up for the BIG test. To my surprise I only missed one question. Within weeks I was taking the GED test. I was nervous and

terrified that I would fail. After a few weeks I recieved my GED certificate in the mail. I was so happy that I passed everything and had my

diploma in my hands.

After completing my GED I decided that I was going to work for a couple of years then attend college. I worked for a couple of different

companies but none of them was what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to go to NIT (National Institue of Technology, 15) and pursue a

diploma in medical assisting. Within weeks of starting school I found out that I was expecting my first child. I continued to go to school but

after about 5 months I started having complications in my pregnancy and had to drop out. I was terribly disappointed. Here I was only four

months from graduating and I had to take time off. During the rest of my pregnancy I came to a decision that I didnt want to be a medical

assistant. At the time medical assistants werent being paid very much and if I was going to put all of my time and money into an education I

wanted to recieve a decent pay.

Another year passed and I decided that I would give college a try again. At this time computers were really starting to become popular

so I figured that I could make an excellent living at programming computers. So in 16 I started attending The Akron Institute to receive my

degree in computer science. Once again within a few weeks I discovered that I was pregnant with my second child. Everything was doing great

when I started having complications and was put on bedrest. I withdrew from school to handle the pregnancy but never returned because

within weeks of giving birth to my daughter I discovered I was expecting my third child. After the birth of my third child I decided that I would

stay home and be a full time mom for my three children.

Durning the past 6 years I have done a lot of soul searching and looking toward the future. At first I wasnt sure what I wanted to do, I

thought that I would just be happy working in a nursing home as a nurses aid. I found after a year that it just did not satisfy my life long

goals. I then focused on the day that I would return to school to obtain my nursing degree. It has taken me two years to save enough money to

return to college.

Once I was sure that I had enough money saved so that I could attend school full time I called Stark State College (April 00) to enroll.

The first step to obtaining my nursing degree was to go to the college and take the Compass Test. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I

passed everything but math. Because of not passing the math section I have to take Introduction To Algebra (Mrs. Gilbert). It was a little

disappointing that I didnt pass something on the test but I had to stop myself and remember that I have been out of high school for twelve

years.

Trust is firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing. Trust between people can be divided into three levels. The first level of trust is the kind that people trust each other under a specific situation. At the second level, people trust each other under similar situations. If trust is developed to the third level, people have complete trust in each other. In order to develop trust between people, certain conditions are required. We either wait for these conditions to meet or make effort to achieve the condition we want.

The first level can be developed between people easily. It happens all the time. For examples, I ask stranger for the time. He tells me the time, and I trust him on this issue. The situation is similar when people ask for direction, want to know which bus to take or to need someone to hold the camera. We can see from these examples that the thing concerned is not something that matters much. It does not require any professional knowledge or personal relation. This level of trust can happen between anyone, including strangers. Yet, there are a few things you can do to make it easier for you to gain other's trust. The first is your appearance. You should look neat and friendly. A smile always helps. The way you speak is important too. You should sound friendly and trustworthy. The last thing is your body gestures. Don't be aggressive.

The second level is common between people, but requires certain conditions to foster. This level of trust include patients' faith in doctors, victims' dependence on police, clients' confidence in lawyers and students' trust in teachers, i.e. trust in people's professions. This kind of trust can only develop when people meet the qualification. People have to prove that. That's why people have more faith in famous doctors and well-know lawyers. Vice president Clinton failed to maintain his professional ethic, thus lost trust from the ABA and his lawyer's license. This is a higher level of trust. The techniques used to develop the first level of trust will help, but they are not the key part. This time you need a reputation. You must find a way to make people believe in your ability. Don't hurry. People's faith in you will increase as your ability increases.

The third level is the highest level of trust and so demands many things. It comes from a long term non-conflicting relationship plus personal understanding. Your belief in your parents and some of your best friends is an example of trust at this level. It may take a long tine to someone. You find out that the person has a good personality later and he helps you a lot. You trust in him in the end. Usually people who are close to each other at this level, because they get more chances to know each other. Trust of this level is usually not necessary but beneficial. It can only be build up little by little and enhanced by the little actions, which create trust. Don't use eyewash. It may seem effective in the short term, but it will destroy the whole relationship in the long run.

Overall, it is easy to see that trust is actually based on what is known about the person. The more is known, the higher level of trust that can be built. You have to show that you are trustworthy before you are trusted.

First Baby

The instant I found out I was having a baby for the first time; anxieties of what was to come were overwhelming. I was nineteen years old, unmarried, and scarred to death of forever being someone's mother. It was February 17, 15 when the doctor came in the exam room and confirmed the results of the pregnancy test. At that moment I grasped what was to occur being discomforts, inevitable changes in the body, doctor's visits and difficulties that may arise in the course of pregnancy until delivery.

During the months that followed life was fairly normal. Morning sickness was non-existent and working a job was still possible until maternity leave was available. As the changes with my body began taking place during the second trimester of pregnancy, I realized my clothing was not fitting anymore and I was tired all the time. Now that it was physically obvious that I was pregnant no longer could I sleep on my stomach, tying my shoes was virtually impossible and standing for long periods of time was becoming extremely taxing. Family and friends constantly wanted to rub my tummy to make the baby kick. Feeling my baby move inside my body is unlike anything I have ever experienced.

Doctor visits were routine, during the first trimester they were once a month, involving weighing in as well as performing sonograms on baby to ensure proper development and learning the proposed due date. Approaching the second trimester, appointments were scheduled every other week; it was at this point in

the pregnancy that I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat. As the third trimester began I was seeing the doctor every week. Normally, that is not the case however I had become "high risk" having developed a condition known as gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes can be harmful to the fetus, in the sense that, if the mother does not monitor her blood sugar at birth the child can go into what is known as "sugar shock". I was required to test my blood sugar daily and bring those readings along when I attended doctor appointments. In the course of my third trimester I also learned the sex of my child.

Tuesday, September 1, 15 was the day of reckoning, or so I thought. I was scheduled to be at the hospital at six o'clock in the morning to begin the labor process and have my baby. I arrived on time and was subsequently whisked off to my room to embark on a journey that would forever change my life. The nurses prepared me for the doctor who emerged at eight thirty in the morning to break my water. Around ten thirty the anesthesiologist came to administer the epidural. Several friends and family members arrived to offer support, encouragement in addition to presents for the baby. I was in labor for approximately eight hours and delivered a healthy baby boy at four thirty five in the afternoon.

For the first time since being informed that I was pregnant, there was no fear, anxiety or worry. Looking at the magnificent creature that I had just given birth to was enough to take away all of my tribulations. My son weighed in at eight pounds and four ounces, was twenty one inches long, a head full of hair and the

most gorgeous skin ever seen. Even though there were many discomforts and some difficulties with the pregnancy, nothing was amiss with the baby. That was

almost eight years ago and a day that I will never forget how could I, it is also the day that I was born 0 years earlier!

Introduction

In this report I will be examining and quoting information taken from the annual reports of 'Woolworths Group' and 'HMV Group'. I will be comparing the profitability, liquidity, efficiency and investment ratios of these two companies and evaluating the financial performance of each in order to review the major factors that have contributed to the financial well being of the two companies.

A1, Business Activities

Both of these companies are high street stores, you can usually find both in most city and large town centres. They both retail goods which most people want to buy such as CDs, DVDs, books and games but Woolworths retails magazines, house-ware, lottery tickets etc that also sell extremely well. The main function of these stores is to sell goods at a reasonable price in order to make profit, and to expand.

A, Definitions

Fixed Assets

Fixed assets are items such as buildings and property that hold a tangible value and investments that won't really change that much in price. Investments such as buying own shares are also considered fixed asset all though they can go up and down in value.

Current Assets

Current assets are variable, they depend on how much the debtors owe, how much stock is available, and how much cash is in hand and at the bank. These kinds of assets can quickly be cashed if needed and they are also used to calculate the liquidity of the companies to give a liquid ratio.

Current Liabilities

Current Liabilities are the opposite of the current assets, these are again variable but depend on how much money is owed out to creditors and possible charges and hidden liabilities.

Long Term Finance

The long-term finance of a company such as HMV will be the money taken for the goods in the stores, cash is paid which is then used to run the company, cover overheads and make profit.

B Summary of progress

When comparing the financial statements from the two companies I notice that HMV has a much higher return on capital employed with 0.8% being over four times greater than Woolworth's only being 4.6%. The reason for this could be that HMV has much bigger bank loans than Woolworth's which will result in having much higher payments to make each year. Having taken this into consideration, HMV has a much bigger profit margin due to lower sales costs meaning they can afford a bigger percentage in payments. HMV have a slightly lower asset turnover rate than Woolworth's who had a rate of .56 times compared with just times by hmv, this could be due to HMV having more tangible assets, possibly owning more premises than Woolworth's.

Woolworth's have a much higher liquid ratio than HMV, simply because the current assets out weigh the current liabilities more, but when looking at the acid test there is only a small difference. This is due to Woolworth's holding a lot more stock, this is also evident in the stock turnover, where Woolworth's take up to 50% longer to turn over than HMV. Woolworth's pay their creditors quicker, but it takes them longer to receive payments from their debtors.

When looking at the investment ratios by themselves you can see what has happened during the financial year 00, and what the shareholders fund is like. During this financial year HMV group have made a good earning on share value whereas Woolworth's have made a loss, but if you consider the shareholders fund you will see that HMV are heavily in debt and need to gain in order to increase the value of the shares. Woolworth's on the other hand have taken a loss, but when considering the shareholders funds the share value is strong, when looking at the profit and loss sheet (pg annual report 00) I notice there are a few large payouts to kingfisher group because there has been a demerger. These large payments to kingfisher will apply to this year only, and with these payments being the blame for the loss made by Woolworth's, if they have a similar year in terms of making profit the share prices will gain asset value. The future for both of these companies looks good, HMV is making a large profit making good earnings on their shares, if business continues the same, being a music and games store this is quite likely, HMV will recover the asset value of these shares. Woolworth's now finished paying the extra costs of the demerger from kingfisher group can expect to cover all costs if business continues the same.

1.Information systems are essential in business today because most organizations need information systems to survive and prosper. Information systems can help companies extend their reach to faraway locations, offer new products and services, reshape jobs and work flows and perhaps profoundly change the way they conduct business.

.In a digital firm any piece of information required to support key business decisions is available at any time and anywhere in the firm. Digital firms respond and sense to their environments far more rapidly than traditional firms, giving them more flexibility to survive in turbulent times.

.Any information system is interrelated components working together to collect, process, store and disseminate information to support decision making, coordination, control analysis and visualization in an organization. Data is raw facts before they have been organized and arranged into a form that people can understand and use. Information is data that been shaped into a form that is meaningful and useful to human beings.

4.Processing converts raw data to useable information. Output transfers the processed information to the people who will use it and feedback is the output returned to the appropriate members of the organization to help them evaluate or correct the input stage.

5.Information systems literacy is a broad based understanding of information systems that includes behavioral knowledge about organizations and individuals using information systems as well as technical knowledge about computers. Computer literacy in contrast focuses primarily on knowledge of information technology.

6.The key element of organizations are it's people, structure, operation procedures, politics and culture. Management's job is to make sense out of the many situations faced by organizations and formulate action plans to solve organizational problems. Technology is one of the many tools managers use to cope with change.

7.The technical approach is based on mathematical techniques such as transportation, inventory and transaction costs. Behavioral is based on changes in attitudes, management and organizational policy and behavior. No single perspective effectively captures the reality of information systems.

8.There is a growing interdependence between business strategy rules and procedures on the one hand, and information systems software, hardware, databases and telecommunications on the other. A change in any of these components often requires changes in other components. This relationship becomes critical when management plans for the future because what a business would like to do in 5 years often depends on what its system will be able to do.

.The internet is an international network of networks that is a collection of hundreds of thousands of private and public networks. The WWW is a system with universally accepted standards for storing, retrieving, formatting and displaying information in a networked environment. They allow more than 500 million people to exchange information or perform business transactions with other organizations around the globe.

10.Flattening organizations, causing fewer levels of management, lower levels of employees, separating work from locations, reorganizing work flows, and by increasing flexibility of organizations. These different procedures are allowing information to be instantly distributed within and beyond the organization.

11.They are flattening organizations by downsizing reducing the number of employees and the number of levels of management giving lower levels of employees greater decision making authority.

1.They all are electronically involved, they are use the internet to do some type of business whether it be to buy sell, inform, track or produce.

1.Information systems that automate the flow of information across organizational boundries and link a company to it's customers distributors or suppliers. They are important because they lead to higher levels of efficiency value to customers and competitive advantage.

14.Information architectures is the particular design that information technology takes in a specific organization to achieve selected goals or functions. The technology infrastructure provides the technology platform for this architecture. As firms move toward digital firms, managers need to develop elements of information through this architecture procedure in order to do well now and in the future. And the hardware, software and date is what they will use to execute their work.

Since I first learned about the Holocaust in fifth grade, I had always condemned Hitler's Germany and assumed a similar belief to that of the book, Ordinary Men by Christopher R. Browning. Browning used a lot of details, when describing and explaining various situations that took place during the Nazi rule in Germany. There was one primary question that Ordinary Men dealt with; were the average German soldiers and civilians responsible for the Holocaust?

Browning basically follows the German Reserve Battalion 101 from their formation in Hamburg, to the start of their killing of Jews, all the way to their final development as experienced killers. According to Browning, the average German did not willingly participate in the killing of Jews. Instead, he believes that due to peer pressure, the Germans followed blindly the orders of their leaders. His assumption as to why Germans did not try to stop the mass killing of the Jews was that they simply were unaware of what was happening to the Jews, either because of denial, or misinformation.

Browning makes it clear that the anti-Semitic propaganda, started by the Nazis in 1, intimidated the Germans from rebelling against the Nazi ideals, and thereby forcing them to take part in the killing of the Jews. I absolutely agree with the belief that propaganda was used to spread the Nazi message of hate and caused some Germans to do all they could to exterminate the Jews of Europe. The question at hand is, was the propaganda strong enough to have led so many Germans into such a killing frenzy? Personally, I dont believe that it could have been propaganda alone that was the cause of the mass killing of European Jews.

Many claim that the Germans were blindly following the orders of the Nazi regime. If this is so, one must assume that the responsibility of the mass killing of European Jews must fall on those who gave the orders, the Nazi leaders. This may be true, but only to some extent. Whenever or not the Nazi regime leaders gave orders to kill the Jews, it was still in the hands of small groups of German soldiers to decide for themselves whether to participate in these inhumane acts it was peer pressure that caused the Germans to do something they may have not wanted to do; taking part in the mass murder of Jews.

Buy cheap Ordinary men term paper

Browning describes the 'drunken games' each Nazi troop would play to alleviate the horror of what they were doing. He uses these examples to create a picture for the reader about how people are affected by peer pressure, and how they must still use certain methods to escape the horrific reality, which they have created for themselves. The way he describes these scenes is absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. The decisions that each man in the troop were expected to make are so foreign to our modern lifestyle. Nevertheless, as a reader, I could relate to the pressures that came to them from authority, and their peers.

In conclusion, Christopher Brownings Ordinary Men, argues that ultimately, it was group pressure and obedience to authority that made the men of Germany kill unarmed civilians. This book is an excellent read for both the casual reader and the history buff. It is a story of courage and cowardice, of guilt and amorality; one which no reader is likely to ever forget.
