There are many important lessons learned when reading "The Chosen." I think that it teaches us that not much has changed over the years. The thing I think is most similar is how people stereotype other people. First impressions are important to a lot of people. Just because somebody belongs to a certain group, people automatically judge them. Weather it's based on race, religion, or social status, people always judge other people. Appearance is also important to a lot of people. People judge them by how they look. There are a lot of mean people that put labels on other people without first getting to know them.

First impressions are important to a lot of people. This is wrong, but a lot of people judge others by the way they first perceive them. They make assumptions and put them into different groups without first getting to know them. Reuven did this with Danny in the novel while they were at the softball game. Heassumed that Danny was a bad person because he always hit the ball back at the pitcher. He believed that Danny did this on purpose. Danny misled Reuven, but without talking to him to ascertain how he felt, he came across as a hateful person.

Appearance is another way that people stereotype other people. They wont talk to a person just because of how they look. If someone looks different, one can either go and talk to them, or just ignore them. Usually, it's the latter. Reuven shows us an example of this in the story. Danny tries to talk to him at the hospital, and he won't even talk to him. Just because he is a more devout Jew, with his fringes hanging from his pants, Reuven thought of him as arrogant and egotistical. He wouldn't even give Danny a chance to talk to him. Reuven thought that Danny was fake. He didn't think of Danny as one who would apologize. Later in the novel, he would find out that he was naïve for thinking this. Him and Danny would become good friends.

A way that the theme of stereotyping can be equated into our society today is in public schools. Everywhere you look you see sundry groups of students making fun of other students. Usually, they don't even know the person, or they just think that they are better than them. They have probably never or rarely talked to these people. Yet, they make fun of them because they are different. People get made fun of because they are different from everyone else. Wouldn't it make more sense for the different person to make fun of those other people because they're all the same?

Cheap Custom Essays on Lessons learned in "The Chosen"

In conclusion, all people stereotype someone, at sometime. Weather you know it or not, you probably have stereotyped someone at one point in your life. This is how the world has been running for years. There have always been different groups. In a sense, it is good though, because if everyone was in one big group where everyone had the same views, there would be no need for a lot of the programs and organizations that are in effect today.

The typical lives of the soldiers fighting on the side of the United States were very machine-like, almost as if they what been told what to do and they performed. During the day, they set up their bunkers and go through some training. And at night, they are fighting in the silent night filled with the color orange, symbolizing fire. They strive to keep themselves alive another day; none of them know who might be living one day and dead the next.

The dangers the soldiers had to face included many because this was the first time America was in a jungle war. As buddies fell before sniper bullets, land mines, and booby traps, GIs grew increasingly frustrated by the demands of a war that seemed to be accomplishing few clear objectives. They had sixty-pound packs; they had to walk through jungles of ten-foot-tall elephant grass and across flooded rice paddies. They fought leeches, fever, and jungle rot.

Many American soldiers went to war enthusiastic about the job they were being asked to do. Many had dreamed of being heros when they grew up. Fighting conditions were way different then what they had seen in the movies, making many terrified of their futures. A lot of soldiers knew they were going to die and tried to their best for America.

The music of the era reflected the attitudes of this war in the country in the way that it was very upbeat in the beginning of the film and then towards the end it was more low-key. In the beginning of the war, the music was more upbeat to encourage the war feeling in the country, but then as reality came into play and they realized it wasn't an easy victory, people started to get sad with losing their loved ones, which was definitely incorporated within the music.

The soldiers wrote letters to their loved ones back home. They talk about their fears like Al, "Honey, I am so scared…we were hit by hundreds of rockets…I was lucky that I bent my head down. The general next to me wasn't that lucky. I had to help carry some wounded soldiers. It was an experience I could never forget or put in words." They talked about the troubles they had with the Vietnamese like Mike, "We can't tell between the good and bad Vietmanese. They are farmers by day and V.C. by night. They say "Me Vietnamese #1, no #10"." Others talked about the courageousness shown by the soldiers, "Morale is very high…Most men don't believe that we'll win the war, yet they all fight like they are the US's ultimate defense." Another example of what was written in the letters was Kevin talking about the psychological problems the soldiers faced, "I have not been hurt. But, all the death I've seen…I've aged. I'm an old man now. But, I'll never stop fighting." Another individual also recognized these problems by saying "The physical and human damage over the past couple of months has been so great…we're all in desperate need of love…I can't stand being all alone at night." Others had wrong feelings about the war like Phil when he said "…he was a good man [Lieutenant Scott]. But, he could understand the Why's of this way…this war is wrong." But the most touching one was the letter by the mother to her son, which basically stated how much she missed him and wish he was with her at this very moment, which was the case of many during this time. Many people lost a lot of their loved ones to this "conflict".

We collected all our data with photos of the rubbish (dumped cars, cans, bottles and food wrappings) humans have thrown into the bush, direct observation of the land, water and motorbike riders, water sample of the creek and surveying local residents.

We selected all these methods so we can find out how humans are impacting on Mill Creek and the land surrounding Mill Creek area. Through all these methods we found out that human's leisure activities are causing high levels of pollution on Mill Creek and the bush surrounding Mill Creek.

We took about 0 photos of all the pollution in the bush and in the creek. We took a small sample of the water testing it for chlorine but it had no chlorine. We found a number plate off a motorbike in the bush so we kept it for evidence of motorbikes been ridden in the bush and we also surveyed 15 people living next to the Mill Creek bush area.

All of our samples were selected so we had some evidence on how humans are impacting on the biophysical environment on Mill Creek and the surrounding area and all of samples do show that humans are impacting on the biophysical environment and shows that Mill Creek area does need some restrictions on motorbikes being ridden in the bush as they are causing erosion to the land, damaging native flora and fauna and air pollution.

Have you ever woken up at seven-thirty in the morning and you're in a mad rush to be at work on time? You swear that by time you get ready you will have to wait until lunch to eat your first meal of the day. For some people lunch times vary, so by early afternoon you're dying of starvation. Even though it is a known fact that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, who really has the time in the morning? This makes breakfast to go an amazing option. But breakfast is not the only meal that we seem to be scrounging for time to make. Families are always looking for anyway to save on time in the kitchen and make more time to spend with each other. Fast food is the perfect solution to many peoples needs either for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Because of this growing need of extra time fast food restaurants have blown up.

Dine in restaurants existed before fast food joints did. In my opinion, people no longer had the time to sit and wait an hour or more for a meal depending on their schedule. And for this reason, fast food restaurants were born. As each year passes the variety of fast food establishments have improved to satisfy their customers. For example, din in was our only option and then we were given a choice, din in, drive thru, or carry out. These choices have made the fast food businesses extremely popular. The different chains now strive to the one who can fulfill a customers order in a matter of minutes.

Another reason why fast food restaurants are so popular is that they are so conveniently located. Whataburger is the most common fast food restaurant in the valley. They are practically on every corner and they have a menu for both adults and children. They list each combo by numbers making the ordering process as simple as possible. Each combo has different types of hamburgers, chicken burgers, salads, breakfast items and desserts all paired up and they include fries and a coke. And now at almost any fast food place you can "Whatasize", "Supersize", or "Biggiesize" your meal from small to medium to large. Quality and convenience is what attracts us to these fast food places. The most popular fast food restaurants for children are McDonalds, Burger King, and Sonic. Children love to go to any one of these fast food restaurants because they have a playground area just for the kids and a toy is included in their kids meal. Parents also love the chains with the jungle gyms for the kids because they can sit and eat in peace while their children are playing in a controlled and safe environment.

Fast food restaurants are very reasonably priced. You can get a meal for less than five dollars. Take college students for instance, they don't have a lot of money for food so the ninety-nine cent menu is a life saver.

I think a remote cause why fast food became so popular is because there was nothing out there like it. All that was available to us was more expensive, crowded restaurants where you needed to be dressed up and sometimes even have a reservation. Once fast food places were invented more and more people loved the idea of eating fast and cheap. Can you imagine if there weren't any fast food places? I can't, you can get in out and still save a buck or two. Why are fast food restaurants so popular? There is not a town or city that does not contain a fast food restaurant, so it is pretty hard not to dine in or pick something up at one time or another and depending on where you choose to stop they have something for everyone. They are very convenient, affordable, and open from dusk till dawn. And the service doesn't end at the drive thru window. You can also order food for delivery right to you own house. Take Pizza Hut for example, you can dine in, carry out, or have home delivery. You can't beat a hot meal in a matter of minutes.

Please note that this sample paper on fast foods is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. PERSONS attempting to find a motive in this essay will be prosecuted; persons attempting to find a moral in it will be banished; persons attempting to find a meaning in it will be shot.

Many people believe that slavery is wrong, but during the time period from 1600 to 1865 slavery was considered morally and economically right by the South. The North on the other hand considered slavery immoral and not economically right. The difference in these views show up in how both sides made a living. The North was industrial and the South was agricultural. The South needed workers and if the work could be done for free this increased the profit on the plantations. The North had no need for slaves because the work was mainly based in factories and industries. Even though the North thought slavery was wrong, both sides thought that blacks were in many ways inferior to whites. The institution of slavery in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and in the time period from 1600 to 1865 was morally and from an economic standpoint right, but the relevance of slavery was beginning to change in the eyes of Huck and in the eyes of America.

There is one difference between a human and an animal. A human is the only animal that would enslave another animal. Negroes were considered animals and it is human nature to enslave another animal as property. This is what sets humans apart from animals. During this time period Negroes were no more than cattle. As cattle farmers need cattle today, plantations needed slaves then. This was the way of life for the South. This can be seen in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The Phelps' and Miss Watson owned slaves and needed slaves to make a living. These people did not see anything

wrong with owning slaves. Miss Watson was even a religious woman living out her life in the ways of God and The Bible.Do my essay on slavery and the adventures of huckleberry finn CHEAP !

The Bible was a main cog in the machine that was slavery. The South believed that by going and getting Negroes from Africa that they were saving these Negroes' souls. They used the Bible to justify their actions. The Bible was used almost like a manifest destiny for slavery. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck was being pulled between his belief in The Bible and his friendship for Jim. He was willing to risk eternal hell for Jim, and was confused on whether to turn Jim in or help him escape. America was also confused during this time period, confused on the issues of slavery, which tore the nation apart.

Something extreme has to happen to alter someone's beliefs. Huck took an adventure and found a friend; America had a war but found the truth about slavery. Both Huck's beliefs and America's beliefs were found over time. One twelve-year-old boy found the truth about equality, racism, and slavery in a month that has taken American as a whole a hundred years to find.

Negro Baseball League

When baseball started from its origin, baseball history came together at one point and formed a separate branch that paralleled the mainstream life for a half-century, until it finally joined again making baseball whole again. During baseball's separation it was incomplete. The majority of American's followed the mainstream. Only to occasionally crossover and watch the parallel stream.

For a half-century white Americans watched major league baseball, vaguely aware of Negro League Baseball. To many white baseball observers black baseball players were unreal and hardly heard of. In the Negro Leagues there were many exceptionally talented players.

Two of today's best-known hall of Fames is Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson, black baseball players. Satchel Paige was once quoted to have said, "there were many Satchel's and Josh's." Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson were two of the players that opened the doors of opportunity for black baseball players like Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Bonds.

On December 14, 1868 black baseball players were excluded from playing on Major League teams because of their race. Black players continued to play baseball, though they had to play on all-black teams and soon after all-black leagues. The first all-black team was the Cuban Giants in 1885. The teams played as independent clubs until 10 when the first black league was established.

In 10 Rube Foster founded the Negro National League. Three years later Ed Bolden formed the ECL or Eastern Colored League. The two leagues operated successfully until they crumbled under financial burdens. There were also other leagues also operated for one season but was not able to continue for the same reasons.

In 1 a new Negro National League was formed, and in 17 Negro American League was formed. These two leagues were run until the color line was broken. During the Lifetime of the Negro Leagues played eleven World Series (14-17, 14-148). They also created their own All-star game in 1.

The Negro National League and the Negro American League coexisted through 148. In 14 they were combined and operated through 160, when the league was officially ended. For a half-century the best black players weren't allowed to be on the same field as white players until Branch Rickey signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers.

During the lifespan of Negro League baseball some of the most talented players of all time were showcased. Without the Negro Leagues being formed by Rube Foster what would baseball be like today? How long would it take for someone to notice that black players are as talented as white baseball players?
