1.By 477 BC Sparta had lost its leadership of the Greek cist states. Athens was able to assume leadership of the eastern states which formed the Delian League. The Ionians turned to the Athenians, after being rejected by the Spartans for protection against the Persians. A compact was made between the Ionian Greeks and the Athenians that together they would drive out the Persians. This agreement was bound by placing iron into the sea to symbolize their lasting bond. The confederacy was centered in Delos and reasons for this include an excellent harbour, cult centre of Apollo, politically insignificant. Athens had strong credentials for holding this leadership. These include

„XAegean states in revolt against Persia accepted and also invited Athenian leadership.

„XAthens had no helots or discontented allies

„XAthenian democracy was an alternative political system opposed to tyranny and obligarchy

„XAthens seen as a protector for the Ionian cities

„XAthens had a superior navy which gained its prestige at the Battle of Marathon

„XAthenian sea power was confirmed at the Battle of Salamis

Athens had the role of

„XCommanding military operations

„XOrganizing members of contributions of ships and money (460 talents)

.The main purpose of the league was to keep the Persians away from Greek land and each country in their empire was required to give money to fulfill this goal. Although the Delian League was successful in its aims of protecting Ionian cities from Persia, there were problems within it

„XForce was used to return members which tried to secede or to bring outside states into the league

„XCity states became tired of their military and financial commitments

„XAthenian policy after Cimon¡¦s ostracism (461BC) became aggressively imperialistic

„XAthens became the strongest naval power in Greece and this was resented and also feared by other Greek city- states

„XThe Delian League¡¦s interests became identified with those of Athens

„XThe resources of the Aegean were directed by Athens for its own benefit

„XAthens interfered with the internal government of suspected members of revolting. These members had lost their right to vote and had cleruchs, Athenian settlers who had special rights and privileges.

„XAthens was regarded as an oppressor or tyrant state after Thasos was subject to subject status

.Smaller city states always looked for protection from the larger and stronger states, the stronger states influenced the politics of the weaker ones and this continued after the Persian wars as city ¡V states sided with either Athens or Sparta.

The helots in Sparta rebelled and on request from Sparta, Athens sent help only to be told when they had arrived that they were not needed and that they could not be trusted. This was the end of the Athenian ¡V Spartan alliance. Athens had then made alliance with Sparta¡¦s enemy, Argos.

Cimon, who directed the Delian League policy used the league to establish Athenian imperialism and prepared the way for the Athenian empire. He furthered Athen¡¦s interests under legal action of the league. As Athens built its empire, Sparta felt threatened and joined in the Greek fear of Athenian dominance.

Buddhism, Islam and Christianity

In Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity there was a main event that is central to its respective religion. In Christianity, Jesus' death and resurrection is the central event. The call of Mohammed and the hegira are central to Islam while Buddha's enlightenment under the Bo tree is the main event in Buddhism. Each event is singular to its religion and attributes to its beliefs and teachings.

Christians believe that after the messiah, Jesus Christ, had spent about three years teaching the gospel, he was crucified for all of our sins. The Pharisee arrested him for heresy and whipped him and treated him very cruelly. Three days later he rose from the dead, proving he was and is the Son of God. To Christians, Jesus' death is very important. It shows how deep God loves us and how much He is willing to sacrifice for us. It is the epitome of Gods love for His people and also fulfills the scriptures. I think that the most important aspect though is Jesus opening the gates of heaven. It shows love as well, but it also demonstrates the measure of commitment that God/Jesus has with us.

In Buddhism, Buddha's enlightenment under the Bo tree is very important and central. What happened was that Siddhartha Guatauma sat under a Bo tree seeking enlightenment. As he sat there in deep meditation Mara, the evil one, tempted him. He surpassed these temptations and continued to meditate until he emerged the Enlightened One or the Buddha. This event is very important to the Buddhist religion. It is the moment when the Buddha started to teach. After sitting under the Bo tree in bliss for forty-nine days he emerged and was ready to share with the world what he knew. He was a great rationalist and a compassionate man, who taught what he believed, which in return started the religion of Buddhism. Mainly, Buddha's enlightenment was central to Buddhism because that is when the ideas from the Buddha were spread and thus started Buddhism.

The call of Mohammed was from the angel Gabriel in the desert praying. He believed that God had chosen Mohammed to be his main prophet and teach that Allah, God, was the only true god. In respect to the Islamic religion, it is very important because it began Mohammed on his mission to teach about the one true god, becoming the main prophet. The hejira, sometimes spelled hegira, which means departure refers to Mohammed's journey from Mecca to Medina. It also is remembered in the journey that every Muslim has to take at least once in his/her lifetime to Mecca, or the hold land. Basically I think that taking this journey, which is stated as a rule in the five pillars (five duties of every Muslim containing only worshiping the one true god Allah, praying five times a day in the direction of the holy land Mecca, giving alms to charity, fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, and making a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in your life), is a way to relive the journey that Mohammed took in order to be closer to him and also to see were your religion began, brining you closer and more in touch with your past. It brings your history to life; gives it a form. Mohammed's call started all this. It started opening people's eyes to Mohammed's teachings of God and a new religion that was similar to the Christian and Jewish religions, just a continuation. Help with essay on Buddhism, Islam and ChristianityBasically Jesus' death and resurrection connects everything else taught to Christians and "wraps up" any loose ends left untied in past scripture, Buddha's enlightenment starts a series of new teachings resulting in a new religion, and Mohammed's call brings a new prophet to the people teaching about Allah, the one true God. All of these events clarify the meaning of their respective religions, each one being a very important event that shaped the religion (or created a religion) brining new meaning into the life of the Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists.

To Kill A Mockingbird Influences on Scout from Interactions w/ Others

Growing up in Maycomb, Southern Alabama in the 10s was not an easy thing. Amid a town of prejudice and racism, stood a lone house where equality and respect for all gleamed like a shining star amid an empty space. The house of Atticus Finch was that shining star. Jean Louise Finch, also known as ¡°Scout¡±, is given the opportunity of being raised in this house by her father, Atticus. I stole this essay from the net. As she grows, Atticus passes down his values of equality and righteousness to Scout and her brother Jeremy Atticus Finch, also known as ¡°Jem¡±. In ¡°To Kill a Mockingbird¡±, by Harper Lee, we see Scout learns many lessons about dealing with prejudice by observing the behavior of other characters in the story.

Scout learns that by yielding to prejudice, we often hurt and cause strife unto others. For example, Scout is harassed and becomes the target of insults when her father decides to defend Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman. This is a plajurized essay. The hate felt towards black people by the majority of the Maycomb citizens causes them to bother and harass those who attempt to befriend the black people. Forgive me for stealing this essay. Scout realizes that the only reason she must undergo this torment is that her father is defending a black man, which has become taboo because of the corruption that racism has caused in many people. In addition, Scout watches Tom Robinson undergo unfair treatment and false accusations. Please dont tell my parents I stole this essay. Although Atticus provides the jury and the people of Maycomb with overwhelming evidence benefiting Tom, and ultimately proving him innocent, this is not enough to overcome the powers of hate and racism. Scout watches as the jury deliberates and convicts Tom Robinson of murder because he is a black man. This is a stolen essay. Although Scout witnesses a myriad of injustices occurring against black people, she also sees an exiguity of kind and compassionate movements towards black people.

Scout learns that by resisting prejudice, we often help others. For example, Scout sees Atticus defend Tom Robinson, despite the white people of the town's disapproval. By defending Tom, Atticus paves a small pathway in Maycomb for black people to follow to attempt to raise their social status. Sorry, I got this essay from the net. Glancing at only the fact that the jury deliberated for hours, we, as well as Scout, can see that Atticus has created an everlasting impact on the citizens of Maycomb. In addition, Scout sees Link Deas defend Helen Robinson from Bob Ewell and his children. The Ewells have been harassing Helen, the wife of Tom Robinson, as she passes by their house every day, because she is black. This is a stolen essay. However, Link Deas will not have it, and he spits on the Ewell residence after he informs them that Ms Robinson will pass by freely without harassment. Scout sees that not all people feel hatred towards black people.

Hatred and prejudice poison the people they infest. Through her experiences and interactions with others, Scout learns to act in spite of prejudice. I stole this essay. Scout's experiences made her a better person because she learns to treat others with respect and dignity and always have tolerance towards people of difference races. Scout learns that prejudice causes strife to others, while tolerance often helps them.

The film Rebecca and the novel are very similar but have some distinct differences. A movie sets the scene for the viewer, but in a book the reader has to imagine the characters and scenes. In a movie the sound effects, lighting, and props replace the long descriptions that are in the book. In Rebecca, some scenes are better with special supplies like sound, light, and props, and the novel is able to supply the reader with more detail.

The plot in the book differs from the plot in the movie. In the book, Mrs. Van Hopper and the soon to be Mrs. De Winter are packing for New York because Mrs. Van Hopper's daughter is sick. This makes the reader feel sympathy for Mrs. Van Hopper. The movie contrasts this event by showing the viewer that her daughter is in fact engaged rather than sick. The movie makes the trip seem joyous in comparison to the book. Another major plot difference is Rebecca's death. In the book, Max De Winter shoots Rebecca; however, in the movie, Rebecca falls on fishing equipment and dies by accident rather than murder. Rebecca's accidental death would not work in the book because the reader thinks that Rebecca has come back to cause mysterious events after she is murdered. Furthermore, Colonel Julyan says to Dr. Baker, "My name is Julyan. This is Mr. DeWinter, Mrs. DeWinter, and Mr. Favell "(64). This shows that Mrs. DeWinter went with Max to the doctor's office, which left Mrs. Danvers alone to pack. In the movie, Mrs. DeWinter stays home and Mrs. Danvers burns and dies with the house.

The characterization differs from movie to book in many ways. Maxim DeWinter is a mean and cruel man in the book, or at least the author gives the reader that impression with his description. In the movie, the viewer sees him as a calm man who does not yell and seems to love his wife more by the actions we see. In addition, Mrs. DeWinter states, "Someone advanced from the sea of faces, someone tall and gaunt, dressed in deep black, whose prominent check-bones and great, hollow eyes gave her a skull's face, parchment-white, set on a skeleton's frame"(68). This description of Mrs. Danvers is supposed to make the reader intimidating. Although in the movie Mrs. Danvers does not appear to the viewer as intimidating, but rude. Furthermore Mrs. DeWinter States, "I behaved like a visitor too, glancing politely to right and left, taking in the weapons on the wall, and the pictures, touching the carved staircase with my hands"(70). In the book Mrs. DeWinter moves all of her possessions into the Manderley, and acts like a tourist. In the movie Mrs. DeWinter acts as if she had lived there her whole life, by taking Rebecca's possession as using them as if they were her own. The Characteristics Between movies and books is imagination and acting.

Setting in a novel is made up of descriptive words to describe where it takes place. In a movie, setting is created and brought to life with lights, props, and sound. Manderley is viewed as a Gothic structure that brings evil and deception to those who live there from Rebecca. In the movie, Manderley is portrayed as a beautiful and peaceful house. However, Du Maurier writes, " and in a moment the dark trees has thinned, the nameless shrubs had disappeared and on either side of us was a wall of colour, blood-red, reaching far above our heads"(65). This describes blood against the dark setting, which sets the mysterious tone and mood of this scene. In the movie, Manderley is shown as somewhat gothic house but well kept without this disturbing image.

Movies and books have to differ because they different techniques. In a movie, the director must consider time, sound, light, and sets to create the actual picture for the viewer. He tries to stay as close to the writer's description as possible. The author has his imagination to create his picture with words.

Polonius gave Laertes very good advises on how to live and act without attracting trouble. This quote is one of the advises that is very useful. This quote generally describes how the clothes can affect one's appearance and judgement from other people. First impressions are very important and naturally people judge other people base on what they wear. Since they don't know the person, they tend to judge how that person is base on what type and style of clothes they wear. This quote is very true because one should buy what one can afford, but don't express a flashy statement. Sometimes the outer appearance is all that you can go by and it's only how people can see you as.

This quote is interesting because it would be a typical advice that a father can give. I chose to do this quote because in some ways, I think that it is easy to do the project on it. Everything in this world is based on outer appearances and clothes make up that outer appearance. There are fashion statements everywhere especially on billboards and in magazines. People like to dress up because it creates a higher self esteem when they feel that they look nice. They tend to function in a more happy mood and with a lot more confidence than those who feels like they don't dress their best. Sometimes people go overboard with the style of their clothes and it creates a somewhat "different" outer appearance than what they had planned. It is also good not to dress flashy because people tend to dislike people who show off their wealth and riches. It shows their conceitedness. This quote is telling that human has a habit of buying expensive things and sometimes they can't afford it. So it is best to buy what you can afford and not to express a showy appearance because the clothes show what kind of person you are.

In the video documentary "Political Organization", I got to experience the

way that Papua New Guineans view politics, the closeness of the tribes, and their

economic structure. I got to compare their way of life to my perspective of Canada,

within the economy, private, and political sectors.Write my Essay on Political Organization for me

The economic and private sectors between Papua New Guinea and

Canada have a different set of ideologies. It is very common in Papua New Guinea for

men to marry or women. Our system of law is based on marrying one person. While

women in Papua New Guinea are gardeners and farmers predominately, the volume of

Canadian working women has risen within the last 0 years. Papua New Guineans

believe strongly in their traditional way of life, where in Canada, change in the political,

economic and private sectors are found more commonly.

In Papua New Guinea, the "Big Man" is the head political leader for all

clans. The Big Man is effective in implementing policies for all Papua New

Guineans, strengthening the bonds throughout clans to the best of their abilities,

and ensuring that the goals of their society are reached. They become leaders in

Papua New Guinea, by having strong leadership skills, being able to

communicate to all clans regarding any concerns that arise, and by putting the

best interests of the clans as a main priority. Individuals become political

leaders in Canada when citizens vote at public meetings or through elections of

certain representatives to govern them. Canadian political leaders inform the public of

tasks they want to accomplish, such as tax cuts and changes in health care.

In Papua New Guinea, authority is limited only to a select few. In Canada,

authority is far more distributed throughout different political organizations.

Habitants in Papua New Guinea participate in politics by being active

within their tribe, participating in day rituals for the creation of new tribes, and

addressing to the Big Man any concerns that arise. Canadians participate through

voting during elections, and addressing their concerns to their municipal government.

Political differences in Papua New Guinea are resolved through an

informal tribal council meeting, where the Big Man will resolve all political and

economic disputes. If the Big Man finds that a clan is losing effectiveness, new

cults will form. Political differences are resolved in Canada with more formal assemblies

in Parliament to address political and economic matters, with numerous political

leaders at these meetings. Papua New Guinea resolves all political

matters by one leader predominately.

Papua New Guinea, a country significantly less populated than Canada,

is made up of primarily Melanesians. Canada is a more diverse, multi-cultural

country with different religious beliefs and ethnic backgrounds. The Canadian

economy carries more trade, financial transactions and market exchanges. I

believe that the role of family is both important in Papua New Guinea and

Canada. However, Canadian families probably experience a higher divorce rate.

In Canada, along with married families, we see more single parent families, and

blended families. I also believe that the relationship in Papua New Guinea

between the political, economic, and private spheres mutually enforce

each other. The Big Man, the political leader, helps all the clans in the market

exchanges of goods and services within their local economy. In Canada, the

roles between government, religion, and the family are kept separately, but

occasionally overlap. Canadians are more allowed to have their own set of

beliefs on religion and government functions.

From these points, I believe that the role of politics, the economy, and religion are

different between Canada and Papua New Guinea. In the future, we may see changes

that evolve in the way one of these two countries views their political organization or

economic structure, yet presently, we see them as two separate entities.
