There are not two similar leaves in a forest, as well as there are not two commensurate attitudes of different person even in completely the same situation. Some will appreciate while others will show disgust to avant-guard art; some will be optimistic and active in face of difficulty while others are reduced to pessimism and passivism in the same delimma. Even the same person may well make different decision when the same thing happens again. Nevertheless, we shouldn't attribute all these seemingly incompatability and sporadic attitudes merely to the influence of immediate situation. People's attitudes are actually determined by some more further internal characteristic.

In our everyday life, we can easily find abundant evidences that, no matter what the immediate situation is, people with similar personal traits are likely to show parallel attitudes and make compatable decisions. For example, in a controversial debate, those aggressive ones always stand up to present their ideas, while introvert ones keep silence and look on. When some celebrity blunders and gossips flooded all kinds of media, those sticking to ethical discipline will certainly denounce the misbehaviour, those caring the society will study the influence of it and try to prevent the public from imitation or being undermined by the impact, while those who seldom take notice of public affairs remain indifferent. Conspicuous statistical data can show it is the intrinsic personality such as ethics, values and so on that guides people in delivering their attitudes to anything happening around.

Some people may argue that, in face of emmergency, people tend to be controlled by their immediate situation rather than their internal characteristic in making decision or showing opinion. This seems to be true in that people may not have enough time to think over the issue and decide their consequently behaviour accordingly thus being manuvoured by instinctive reaction to immediate situation. However, so called instinct of people is in fact cultivated through the life time of a person. He or she always has to make decisions or show attitudes to every happening around him or her, from as triffle as choosing drink to as crucial as deciding what to do in face of impending danger. Such experiences, no matter the outcoming is successful or not, help a person to modify his or her point of view, to amend his/her behaviour accordingly and thus the intrinsic characteristics come into being gradually. No matter what the immediate situation is, people turn to their experience-based intrinsic, or more precisely the abridged version of normal decision making pattern, for similar cases they have experienced before and decide what their attitude will be this time.

But we should never fail to recognize the effect of immediate situation on the determination of one's attitude. To some extent, the immediate situation is a factor of fluctuation that influent the result of determination. The less time and knowledge of the specific situation one has, the wider fluctuating range his/her determination of attitude will have, because under such circumstances, people have no enough time to recall much of their experience for reference, or the lack of knowledge over current situation makes it hard to find corresponding practices of before. We have to gamber after our intrinsic personality has set down a basic point of determination.

Custom writing service can write essays on People's attitudes are determined more by their immediate situation or surrounding

In all, immediate situation does have impact on our determinations of attitude, however, such impact is more in a modification aspect rather than in a definitive status. It is our intrinsic characteristics, which are largely formed and ever-modified by the experience of past situations, that dominates us in our life.

Race by the Numbers

In the essay Race by the Numbers, Orlando Patterson, claims that whites are going to remain the majority in the U.S.--because Hispanics are really white! Sounds a lot like Ellis Cose in his essay, The Colors of Race, "Today it is becoming increasingly harder to define what it means to be "white" in America…" It is a known fact that since the framers of the Constitution reached a compromise to count black slaves as three-fifths of a person; racial numbers have been about political power. In contemporary America, the distribution of political power on the basis of population, the use of race in the drawing of legislative districts and racial block voting have prompted people to inflate their numbers. Or at least fear their dilution. Pattersons essay addresses the political dynamics of racial quotas that have even noticed that Hispanics are eligible for preferences.

Since the census allocates political power as much as it sketches a portrait of the country, there is another abiding truth that flows out of the 000 census several civil rights groups are opposed allowing people to choose more than one race on the 000 census. The politics of racial numbers runs headlong into the desire of interracial couples to not have their children be forced to choose one race, the result was a Solomonic decision that gives a distorted picture of the nations racial landscape. Patterson responds in part to political lobbying by civil rights organizations, and for example people, who can be of any race, have scrambled the racial landscape.

He also challenges the way the country looks at race. For example, how should a people be counted? The way a government sees them or the way they see themselves? Many Hispanic people may describe themselves as white and are counted by the federal government as other than white. Patterson also argues that the gap between the number of people the government lists as a particular race and the number of people who think of themselves as being of that race not only adds to the confusion, but leaves the government figures open to legal challenge. The question that evolves out of this discussion is whether people should be classified with a particular group using the old criteria of skin color or language?

Custom Essays on Race by the Numbers

Patterson see the numbers, particularly the shrinking proportion of non-Hispanic whites fan the flames of racial hatred. Patterson's claims come about from influence on perceptions of who is white originates among the so-called Hispanics. For political and economic reasons, including the benefits of affirmative action programs, the leadership of many Hispanic groups pursues a liberal, coalition-based agenda with African-Americans and presses hard for a separate, unified Latino classification. This strategy is highly influential even though nearly half of Hispanics consider themselves white. For African-Americans, the nations major disadvantaged minority, these tendencies are problematic, although African-American leaders are too shortsighted to notice. Latino coalition strategies, by vastly increasing the number of people entitled to affirmative action, have been a major factor in the loss of political support for it

The Film Industry

Film as an art blossomed in the 10s and in to the 10's becoming a favorite entertainment in American and World culture. The demand for films had dramatically grown, its future importance become evident. The world had no clue what was in store for them on the "Silver Screen".

The ten-year period, between the end of world War One and the Stock Market Crash, allowed Film to grow tremendously. The studio system, created during the 10's. Long-term contracts for stars, block bookings, and increasingly rigid control of directors and stars by the studios production chief became part of the everyday Movie making business. Big films now had big money supporting them. The Five Major Studios named The Big Five included; Warner Bros. Pictures (est. 1), MGM (est. 14), RKO (est. 18), Paramount Pictures (est. 16), and Twentieth Century Fox (est. 15). Other studios founded included; Universal and Columbia. Venues to support the films started popping up all around America, like the now-famous Chinese Theater in Hollywood in 17. The population of Hollywood had ballooned from 5,000 to 10,000 between 11 and 15. The Hollywood sign (originally HOLLYWOODLAND) was built above town in 1 for $1,000 to advertise the center of movie mania

Now motion pictures were part of American culture, and the actors and actresses were becoming more and more a famous. Movie stars were born, among the firsts were Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, who both had many Box-Office successes. In front of the Chinese Theater the "Stars of Hollywood" placed their handprints and footprints in cement to be immortalized as a celebrity. The Motion Picture Academy (the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) (est. 17) created the Academy Awards, not yet known as Oscars to recognize great films and filmmakers. The first "Best Picture" was awarded Wings in 17. Other stars like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd brought about the boom of lighthearted comedies. Chaplin's physical humor, like slapstick ,drawing from mime, amused audiences across America. The uniquely American westerns film genre became popular in the early days of the cinema. The first major Western, a landmark film, was director James Cruzes The Covered Wagon (1), advertised as the biggest thing the screen has had since The Birth of a Nation. Many different genres such as horror and gangster films captured Americas growing interest in cinema.

Silent films of the late 10'swere not really silent but underscored by sound organs, gramophone discs, musicians, sound effects specialists, live actors who delivered dialogue, and rarely full-scale orchestras. In 16 Warner Bros. launched the first "Talkies"(movies with sound) with the development of a synchronized sound system called Vitaphone that had been developed by Bell laboratories. On August 6, 16, in New York, Don Juan became the First Full length picture with sound recorded on wax disks. Although it was not as successful as Warner Bros. had hoped it marked a new era of entertainment. Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie (18), was the first speaking cartoon with synchronized sound. Mickey Mouse made his first appearance, and Disney started his Silly Symphony animated cartoon series.

The 10's, known as "The Golden Age of Hollywood", brought many first. The Production Code set film guidelines (not yet strictly enforced until 14) regarding sex, violence, religion, and crime in 10 and, the first drive-in theatre was created in Los Angeles (at Pico and Westwood Boulevard) As sound film continued to develop color now entered the industry. Originally just two and three color films debuted, but the first film (a short) in three-color Technicolor was Walt Disneys animated Flowers and Trees (1). Hollywoods first full-length feature film photographed entirely in three-strip Technicolor was Rouben Mamoulians Becky Sharp (15). In 1 both The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind were expensively produced with Technicolor. The ruby slippers and a yellow brick road surely would not have been the same with out full bright color.

In just twenty short years the film industry and grown from a rare novelty to one of the largest entertainment industries in the United Sates as well as across the world. Movie stars and classic pictures would captivate countless audiences, allowing them to laugh, cry, and fear together. America had no clue what future surprises awaited them.

The war against Iraq seems to be the most urgent topic and concern all over the world. There are different views on the problem, but the world can be divided into major groups nowadays into those who are for this war and those against it and their opinion can be either pro- or anti-American government policy.

Most American citizens are inclined to support the war. They believe it's important that the threaten to their freedom and happiness be destroyed since the U.S. is the land of the dream that life can be better, richer and fuller for everybody, and anything that may intervene or stand in the way to their happiness and liberty should be eliminated. Moreover, those soldiers in the Gulf believe they are risking their lives on behalf of all American citizens with wholehearted and passionate conviction that they are making the world a better place for American citizens everywhere.

From the position of the war opponents that is a mistake, a deceitful idea and they are just misled by the President and the government of the U.S. Besides that, thinking or talking about the reason for the war one can get really confused. The outcome is really uncertain. Mr. Bush says that this is for the sake of America, it's freedom, but there is something else that drives him and American government the money and the desire to control the world's oil supply for the benefit of America. It's unfair. Saddam is considered to be the greatest enemy of the U.S., though there are many other 'bad' people all over the world that Mr. Bush seems to have forgotten about. Why doesn't he fight against Ben Laden? Why doesn't he fight against the North Korea's leader? The answer is simple in my opinion. Not the security of the U.S. is the top priority and the main purpose of the war, but money and oil. Actually, the economy of the U.S. and its role in the world community is at stake. Unlike those who are for the war those who are against it insist that the war be the greatest mistake ever made in American and world history. The military action is being fulfilled against the world public opinion, against the principles and norms of international law and the Charter of the United Nations; it can't be justified based on the publicly available evidence of the weapons of mass destruction. Moreover, the desire of the American president to change the political regime contradicts international law and should be determined only by the citizens of the country.

Eventually, a big debate based on the views on policy towards Iraq is still going on; however, what really makes sense is that every day people perish behind this sharp dispute and their families face a terrible tragedy. The news from the Gulf is painful; this war is a test not only for those fighting for America in Iraq, but for America itself, for its people. Hopefully, it will bring people together and make them focus on what is most important, the sense of unity. The U.S. has the finest opportunities for life, liberty and happiness, it's a land where everybody is free to chase dreams of fortune or just follow a personal vision of how life should be lived and no matter what the President, the government and the citizens of the U.S. should be careful and try to avoid going to too painful extremes.

Coursework"Is Tony Kytes an Arch-Deceiver

Amy Everton

Thomas Hardy's tale 'Tony Kytes, the arch-deceiver' contains a man who can not decide between three women who he loved at one point through the years. These are his fianc , his first love and the girl he loved before his future wife. However he nearly misses out on all three. All the way through, the reader can see the fickle changes of Tony Kytes. This tale is not a typical romance story where the couple live happily ever after, but actually turns into a comedy for the reader as we see Tony's plan go from bad to worse. This story is a 'tale within a tale' probably told by locals in a village pub where it captures Dorset village life where everyone likes a bit of juicy gossip.

Tony kytes is not the typical ladies man, good looking, funny or rich, in fact quite the opposite. Tony is described by the narrator (a local) as 'unsmiling' and it 'was as if he couldn't laugh without great pain', this would be bad for a ladies man because a women would find a person boring without a sense of humour or if the man didn't show a sense of happiness it would put the woman of the man. The narrator tells the reader how that even though Tony had a bad time with 'small pox' leaving him with 'seams here and there' on his face, it never 'hurt his looks in a woman's eye', so there must be something about Tony for the women to like him.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Is Tony Kytes an arch deciever

Tony is very easily swayed by women, and if he was a genuine cheat he would not be so easily swayed and would know his own mind and would not be letting the women over take. However when a pretty woman says something everything that Tony had planned to say goes out of his mind, this is because he gets very distracted a real deceiver would not get panicky and forget what he is doing, for example when unity says "can you say I'm not pretty', Tony should say straight away no but I have a fianc , but in fact Tony has to take a minute to look he up and down.

All the way through the tale Tony lets the whole thing get out of hand. Because Tony cannot say no to any of the girls, he makes the mistake of letting all three women get in the same wagon at the same time. He gets stuck in this situation and ends up leaving himself and the reader wondering how he is going to get everyone out, without them being aware of each others presence. The first woman happened to get onto the wagon by asking Tony for a lift home, when Tony saw his future wife he asked unity to get into the back 'under the tarpaulin in the back'. His fianc said that she was going to meet up with him, but when Tony saw his first love he asked his fianc to get 'under the tarpaulin in the front'. However when Tony sees his dad coming towards him he asked the third woman to duck, so as each woman in turn gets onto the wagon, Tony panics and makes the one who has got on before hide, saying silly things like 'will ye lie down in the back of the wagon under the tarpaulin' until all three are hiding in the back of the wagon because they all have a thing about the cheat. An arch-deceiver would manipulate the situation, meaning that he would take charge and control and make things happen the way he wanted and not do stupid things like Tony does.

A ladies man would be good at holding a conversation when in a bit of a panic. However Tony is not. He clearly cannot hold a half decent conversation. When talking to Unity, Millie or Hannah his voice is lowers and quietness so only the girl he is talking to can hear him. An example of this is when he was talking to Hannah, the girl he really loved, 'he spoke tender and tenderer………in a whisper at last'. This way of talking gives away the fact that he is lying through his teeth.

Tony does not get his first, the girl he really wanted. A real arch-deceiver would get what he wanted all the time, but Tony ends up with the woman he had in the first place, Millie! and this was not the girl he wanted to love. After all of the girls found that they were sharing the back of the wagon with each other, they were so humiliated that they told Tony, 'never; would I sooner marry no one', however they did not mean this and they were hoping that Tony would come after them, but Millie was the only one who said she would have him.

not yet finished.

Often in life humans tend to think that they control their own fate. In the play

Oedipus Rex, Sophocles can be seen as teaching a moral that fate is pre-determined

and that humans cannot escape their own destiny. Oedipus, Lauis, and Jocasta all

try to control their own fate, however, they find out that they cannot escape their destiny. Help with essay on Oedipus RexLauis is one of the characters in Oedipus Rex that tries to control his fate. When

he asks a oracle at Delphi to tell him his prophecy and the oracle tells Lauis that he and

his wife Jocasta will have a child, however, the oracle also tells Lauis that he will die at

the hands of his son. Since Lauis is told this he decides to kill the child when it is

born. Once the child is born Lauis makes the babys feet bound together and exposes it

on a lonely mountain where he thinks it will soon die. After Lauis does this he has no

more fear about getting killed by his own son. However, a shepherd would save the

baby and eventually the baby Oedipus would become a man and accidentally kill

someone who would turn out to be Lauis his father. Even though Lauis tries to control

his own fate, in the end his prophecy turns out to be true. Jocasta addresses the fact

that Lauis tries to make sure that he can control his own fate.

But his child had not been three days in this world before the King had pierced the babys ankles and left him to die on a lonely mountainside. Thus, Apollo never caused that child to kill his father, and it was not Lauis fate to die at the hands of his son, as he had feared. (Oedipus Rex II.ii).

What Jocasta is saying is that Lauis didnt want to die at the hands of his son so he tried

to control his fate by having the baby killed. However, Lauis learns the hard way that

fate cannot be messed around with.

Another character that tries to control his own fate is Oedipus. Oedipus like Lauis

is also told his prophecy by an oracle at Delphi. The oracle tells Oedipus that he

will kill his father, marry his mother, and have children. Since Oedipus is told this

he decides to never go back to Corinth where his mother and father live. However,

Oedipus believes Polybus is his father but he really is not. So Oedipus is really

not getting away from his real parents, it turns out that he is actually getting closer

to them. This is one way of how Oedipus tries to control his own destiny. As Oedipus

is on his way to Delphi he is almost forced off the road by the man and Oedipus ends

up falling on the man and killing him. The man turns out to be Lauis his real father, so

Oedipus ends up killing his father without even knowing it. Oedipus also ends up

marrying Jocasta who is his mother. By doing this Oedipus has fulfilled his prophecy

of killing his father and marrying his mother. Even when Oedipus does know what

he has done he still doesnt admit it to himself, he keeps digging for more evidence

until it is very clear that he is the murderer of Lauis. As Oedipus is finding out that

he might be the murderer of Lauis he says,

Ah if I was created so, born to this fate, who could deny the savagery of God? Oh holy majesty of heavenly powers! May I never see that day! Never! (Oedipus Rex II.ii).

By saying this Oedipus is saying how upset he will be if his prophecy turns out to be

true. Jennifer Lewin says in her criticism about Sophocles,

Ultimately, while we can regard Oedipus as both admirable for his leadership

skills and noble intentions and imperfect for his overconfidence and harsh treatment of others, he is a figure whose fate inspires pity and terror because of his ability to endure misfortune. (Lewin 1).

Lewin is saying that even though Oedipus is admirable he is doomed by his destiny.

It can be seen that even though Oedipus shows admiration because of his search for

the truth he continually tries to alter his destiny and escape his fate.

Jocasta portarys another example of how people try to change their fate and

escape their own destiny. Jocasta knows that Oedipus is the murderer of her husband

Lauis who is also the father of Oedipus and Jocasta knows that Oedipus is her son

because a messenger from Corinth tells Oedipus that Polybus was not his father and

that he got Oedipus when he was a baby from one of Lauis servants. Though Jocasta

is pretty sure that Oedipus is her son she tries to stop Oedipus from finding out the truth

because she does not want the truth to ruin her life. When the messenger is telling

Brotherly Love as it Develops

William Shakespeare's comedic play As You Like It revolves around the love relationships that the characters are involved in. The witty humor often seems to be mocking plays of it's time as every character pairs with another to find love or reconcile a forgotten love. Oliver and his brother Orlando develop and illustrate the complexities of brotherly love from the introduction of Oliver's hatred for his brother to the end where he finds love for his brother once again.

As the play opens Oliver quickly becomes the antagonist of the play. The audience learns, from Orlando, of Oliver wrong-doings. They are sons of Sir Rowland de Bois but the relationship they have is initially not one of the conventional brotherly love. Oliver, the eldest son has taken the land left by his father but not taken the duties of caring for Orlando. As Orlando expresses, Oliver has "trained [Orlando] like a peasant obscuring and hiding from [him] all gentleman-like qualities" (I, i. 1601). There is irony present when Oliver describes Orlando because the depiction of a man "full of ambition, an envious emulator of every man's good parts, a secret and villainous contriver against me his natural brother" (I, i. 160) is a fair depiction of Oliver, himself.

Adam, a faithful servant, reveals to Orlando his brothers plot "to burn the lodging where [Orlando] use to lie, and within it. If he fail of that, he will have other means to cut you off" (II, iii. 1614). Orlando then decides to leave the land where he stays and go into the forest with Adam to escape his brother's murderous plot. Oliver is later asked by a Duke to seek out Orlando in the forest and "bring him, dead or living," (III, i. 164).

Bannigan

Oliver agrees replying "O that your highness knew my heart in this. I never loved my brother in my life."

In act four Oliver tells a story of a heroic rescue to Rosalind, Orlando's love interest. The story being told is the story of Orlando rescuing his eldest brother from death. Orlando had the opportunity to leave his brother to die "but kindness, nobler ever than revenge, and nature, stronger than his just occasion, made him give battle to the lioness," (IV, iii. 1646). Orlando disregarded the fact that his brother had a plot to kill him and saved him regardless, illustrating his unconditional brotherly love. When awaking to find his brother had defeated a lion to save him, Oliver then realized the love his brother commits to him and the love he has for his brother.

Although Oliver proclaims his hatred initially in the play, he finds love for his brother in the last acts. Their sibling relationship resembles relationships of normal siblings. At some point most siblings will have their arguments and hatred for each other but eventually their love will be expressed. Orlando and Oliver's love is very complex and may not be observed or expressed in the beginning but their brotherly love develops with time and maturity. Just as the brothers find love with Rosalind and Celia they also find their brotherly love for each other.
