What have you learned about your students this year?

I have learned that my students can achieve anything, as long as I am there to believe in, support, and guide them along the way. I have also learned the value of selecting groups for students. This helps to break down barriers between students. It also often helps to make the groups more effective because the members are not just gossiping about everything other than the material at hand.

What have you learned about yourself as a teacher?

As a teacher, I have learned that the respect I give students really does pay off, for the most part. I have students other teachers label as the difficult students perform in my class, though they may still be difficult. I have students coming up to me outside of class to say hello. And, I have a student who could not get up in front of the class to do a presentation six months ago volunteering to perform scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream in front of the class.
