Now came the part of setting up the experiment. I started with the idea of freezing 50mL cupfuls 1 at a time, but, after thinking it through and realising that we had to repeat the experiment, decided to spread 50mL evenly using an ice cube tray. Ingenious, I could have the experiment carried out 16 times by only actually doing it once. This way I had all the info I needed, all that was left was writing it up. Now how on earth do you graph 115 observations? Like I said, this is one of the hardest assignments I've done. The only solution I could find was a scoring system, from one to ten. One means plain water ten means solid ice, the rest slot in-between. There was another problem. For those who don't know salt water's freezing temperature is lower than normal water, now you do. It's just too bad my freezer isn't that cold, so the salt water, both hot and cold, never really froze at all. I overcame this problem by ignoring it, and just recorded what results I got, which wasn't much at all. Both the salty waters failed miserably but, in the end, it turns out that the cold water froze quicker, proving me wrong, but it was very close and, under different conditions, there could have been a different outcome.
