Hist 111 paper 1

Both Herodotus and Thucydides are historian that recorded history. But the way they collected their data and when they collected are different. Herodotus relied heavily on personal accounts because no one had written anything down yet. While Thucydides relied on personal observation or statements from others present at event. Because of Herodotus writes about events that happened years before he is born and uses mythological references, some people could say that is evidence isn't believable. That's why I think Thucydides writings are more credible than Herodotus.

Cheap University Papers on Herodotus versus Thuyclides

Herodotus is called the father of history because he was the first person to write down historical events. He wanted to preserve the memory of the past of the Greeks e Orientals and to show how the two came to conflict.. He traveled all throughout eastern Mediterranean collecting stories and visiting famous places. He wasn't very concise, he wanted to present as much information about the Persian War and other events as he could. His writing weren't very organized either. He would begin talking about the Persian War and the start explaining the origins of the conflict by references to mythological prehistory.

Thucydides on the other hand is really into getting the facts straight. Unlike Herodotus who started writing about the past, Thucydides started writing about the present and the future. Also unlike Herodotus who's writings were scattered, Thucydides writings were in chronological order events, split between summer and winter months. Thucydides also provided numerous interjections of his personal analysis of events. He gives his reasoning as why the Peloponnesians and the Athenians began warring he provides contrast between the Athenian culture and the Peloponnesian culture which he considered to be the primary cause for the start of the war. The conservative, oligarchic Peloponnesians feared the advent us, daring of the democratic Athenians (The Causes of the Peloponnesian War, p66). Even though Thucydides tried to keep all of his factual as possible, some of his writing were made up. He attended speeches and could not remember everything, so he made up what should have been said.

Herodotus is regarded as a as the father of history but because some of the things he did makes him less credible than Thucydides. First he wasn't present at the events he writes about. Even a lot of history is recorded this way it doesn't compare in creditability to something that is written first. Second he incorporates myths in his writing. Because of this you can't tell what is real and what is myth. Even though Thucydides sometimes made up endings to speeches, the way he went about getting his information is more accurate historical account than Herodotus.

Tragedy is a type of drama or literature that shows the downfall or destruction of a

noble or outstanding person, traditionally one who possesses a character weakness called

a tragic flaw. The tragic hero, through choice or circumstance, is caught up in a sequence

of eventst that inevitably results in disaster. These terms can all apply to the

Cheap Custom Essays on Othello

Shakespearean plays Othello and Julius Ceaser, with the characters Othello and Brutus as

the tragic heroes.

First and foremorst, Othello possesses the qualities of a hero by being a top

general in Venice. Othello takes on the trecherous role as the head of the army and is

successful at his position. Not only is Othello a born leader, but he is born of great rank

from a noble family. He has it all together and is a role model to his citizens. The people

of Venice respect Othello for his nobility, military knowledge, and superiority. Othello is

able to relate to his people as well. Being involved in war since the age of seven, Othello

has the experience of war just like his fellow soldiers are currently involved in. He

understands the customs of war and what his men are going through which enables him to

be such a powerful leader. What distinguishes Othello from the common soldiers is his

soldierly courage and self-control. Like Othello, Brutus too was a noteworthy figure in

society. He was well respceted by his fellow citizens with whom he could easily relate

to. Brutus, however, had the great ability to move his people through speeches. One of

the most memorable speeches in literature is the scene at the town center in which Brutus

gets the public to revolt against the all-powerful Julius Ceasar. Both Othello and Brutus

are heros in one sense for their ability to relate to and appreciate the efforts of their

people.

What makes Othello the "tragic" hero is his one tragic flaw-innocence. Because

Othello is such a powerful figure, he expects the respect of his fellow citizens, especially

Iago, who has a well-known reputation for honesty. However, once Othello has been

deceited and lied to, he must struggle to determine whether he should believe the honesty

of Iago or the honesty of Desmodema. Othello's honesty and the trust he puts in people

turns and backfires on him. When Iago puts thoughts of suspicion into Othello's mind of

Desmodema and Cassio's love affair, Othello goes so far as to say he would rather go on

with his ways without the knowledge of that which will hurt him. Just as Brutus died a

tragic death in "Julius Ceasar" so too does Othello. Othello's love for Desmodema

continues to grow and the fact that she would betray him bothers him so much it brings

Othello to killing Desmodema and then himself.

It is obvious Othello is a prime example of the tragic hero. He is a such a noteable

character it is tragic to see him fall by the control of his own people. One of such people

being Iago, Othello becomes the victim in his own world.

Changes are natural part of our lives. They provide us with experiences that enable us to enrich ourselves. They offer us new ways of viewing and facing challenges. They also help us in visualizing our dreams and goals and in thinking of ways to attain them. Indeed, changes define a person. Since I have entered high school, many changes have happened to me that have greatly contributed to my well - being. Among these, two have helped me prepare for life in and after college. The two significant events have caused changes in myself, and these are living in a dormitory and becoming the editor in chief of our school paper.

Living in a dormitory. Have you ever slept in a hotel room? Then you probably know how it feels like to stay in a place where many other people before you have slept, ate, and bathed, too. It doesn't stop there. Imagine that you will have to extend your stay due to some delay in your business transaction. And, suddenly all of the hotels in that area get filled up and that you'll have to share your room with someone else. You would have to get along with each other so that there won't be conflicts in using the bathroom or when it comes to one another's schedule. Maybe this is already getting too far but at least, you already have a picture of what life in a dorm is like.

It doesn't stop with adjusting to your roommate's habits. You would also have to get along with your other dorm mates in tackling matters such as noise, garbage management and using shared properties such as the building's kitchen, refrigerator and television. Sometimes, the most trivial matters can cause misunderstandings between/among dorm mates like not listening to what he/she is telling you or telling them to back off or keep away from you if you have to study.

Dorm life sharpens your wits. You always have to be on your guard in case someone enters the dorm and starts stealing your things or when a fire breaks out. It helps you in making decisions. Definitely, you will still have to consult your parents regarding major matters but when it comes to everyday struggles and the final say on things, you are really in command because you are on your own.

Being the editor in chief. Have you ever wondered how an agile acrobat maintains his grace and composure despite distractions? The title editor in chief sounds great, and the job demand is really great! It is indeed a great balancing act leading and guiding co-workers, getting support from school officials and staff, mobilizing and inspiring writers to act and interact, pushing people to work based on schedule of activities.

But life is really like that and instead of looking at the negative, I prefer to look at the positive side. I am simply happy when I hear reactions from readers and I see students reading the finished product of the group's concerted efforts.

Changes are natural part of our lives that should be embraced and cherished, for they will define who we are and what we would become in the years to come.

Alcohol Orwell uses beer to represent the Old Russia. He first notes that the reason Jones lost control of the farm and began being cruel to the animals was because of alcohol. It symbolizes, more than anything, a corrupt government a government drunk on prosperity (a prosperity which never trickles down to the common animal). But its eventually this drunkenness which ruins and leads to the inevitable collapse of this system. Jones lost power over the animals when he became drunk and lazy; even Napoleon will eventually be overthrown because of the alcohol he intakes. Orwell alludes to this near the end of the book when he says that in generations to come there will be still more uprisings. Some day it was coming it might not be soon, it might not be within the lifetime of any animal now living, but still it was coming.

Alcohol was originally seen as a grave evil of the new regime.Old Major repeatedly warns the animals against taking on Mans ways, but his concerns are not heeded. Really it was the issue of alcohol that made many of the animals suspicious of the pigs. Thus, Napoleon had Squealer change the commandments.

Its interesting that even today many of the Russian leaders have a drinking habit.

Overcoming Fear

Ernest Hemingway wrote this story to leave an unsure feeling inside his readers. In the story, Francis Macomber was shot and killed by his wife, Margot. Many things in the story make the crime seem intentional, but the author does not reveal the truth.

Robert Wilson, the hunting leader, led Francis Macomber and his wife on an African safari. Hemingway describes Robert's eyes as "cold" and "flat", which indicates that he is not an emotional person. (Trudy Ring) This lack of emotion is one of the things that led to Margot's cheating on Francis with him. The two men, in my opinion, are completely different. Francis basically lets his wife run all over him, and does not have a firm control over her. Robert is a kind of man that has no sympathy for a person like Francis, who in the story thinks to himself "Well, why doesn't he keep his wife where she belongs? What does he think I am, a bloody plaster saint? Let him keep her where she belongs. It's his own fault." Also, Margot looks at Francis as a coward when compared to Robert because he had been afraid practically the whole time. When Francis learns of his wife cheating with Robert Wilson, he is outraged and filled with hate. Perhaps this makes him angry enough to overcome his cowardliness. Later on, he redeems himself by shooting three buffaloes with Wilson, one by himself. Margot was probably sort of shocked finding this out, and knows her husband is no longer who he used to be. He is a real man with no fear. This might have made her afraid, because even though she had taken a liking for Wilson, she most likely loved her husband for who he had always been, and was not ready for him to change. As they went to see the first buffalo that had been shot, they all expected it to be dead, making it's charge at Francis startling. No one had much time to react, and desperate to save her husbands life, Margot shot towards the buffalo as it approached Francis, but missed and killed him instead.

She seemed deeply effected by his death, showing that she really was concerned with his well being. I think his death was an accident. She may have really loved him, or just realized that the person that gave her everything was now gone. She may not have ever loved him, but cried simply knowing she had just killed a human being. Did Margot Macomber intentionally kill her husband? Was she afraid of her husband overcoming fear? Why did she cry hysterically realizing he was dead, if she had treated him the way she did? There are many suggestions to answer questions like these, but the truth will always be unclear, as Hemingway desired.

The Horse Whisperer

Constructed from a blacksmiths story, Nicholas Evans creates a tale of torn soles and broken hearts that only faith in one man, The Horse Whisperer, can mend them both. The Horse Whisperer, published in 15, is a story about a girl who loses her best friend while at the same time is in the mist of losing her only companion, and a mother, like any mother, struggles to put her daughters life back together again. Based on fiction, this story could actually take place today or any other time, in anyones life. Going through financial hardship, Nicholas Evans finds a light at the end of the tunnel when he publishes and sales over 15 million copies worldwide.

Nicholas Evans was born in Worcestershire, England. As a child he spent his time watching American westerns on TV, riding horses, and reading Jack London books. He studied law at Oxford University and graduated with first class honors (Evans). He worked as a journalist for years before furthering his career as a TV films producer. During the 180s he produced TV documentaries about famous writer, painters and filmmakers. This is when he met David Lean, who became his friend and mentor. Lean persuaded him to switch, from his normal documentaries, to fiction. In 1 he met a blacksmith in the far south-west of England who told him about horse whisperers-people who have a gift of healing traumatized horses (Evans). This was to become his first novel.

Though the time is set in present day, the novel is not written on a specific event. Evans career as a journalist and screenwriter was sputtering and, although he had produced a documentary about director David Lean, his own directing deal had fallen apart (Literati). This inspired him to write the novel, hoping to his own financial hardships. Between Holly Wood producers and know publishers, Evans earned $8 million, bringing more hope into his own life. This also encouraged him to write other novels, The Loop and The Smoke Jumper.

Help with essay on The Horse Whisperer

The story begins on a cold, snowy, New York City morning. Grace, the storys main character, and her friend are horseback riding in the snow when one of the horses slips in front of a log truck. Graces friend and horse are both killed instantly. Graces horse is also involved but survives. Although the horse and Grace survive, the horse is traumatized and seems to never be the same again. The mother, Annie, fears Grace will never be the same if her horse, Pilgrim, is not cured of this terrible accident. Annie travels across the country to seek help from Tom Booker, the horse whisperer. Doing this, Annie has put every thing in her life, including her marriage, in jeopardy.

Nicholas Evans captures our hearts as well as our souls with a story derived from a blacksmiths story and the motivation of personal hardship in a time of life we have experienced or someday will have the pleasure of experiencing. It is a stirring elegy to the power of belief and self-discovery, to hopes lost and found again (Evans).

Introduction In this essay I will investigate the paths that a spiritual athlete has to follow to "win a gold medal" and what are exactly the four paths of Hinduism. So my question is What are the paths that an athlete can follow to concretize his aim?

The four paths of Hinduism are Blakh, karma, Jhana, and Yoga.

Blakh is a devotion to a personal God; it is the path of the Baghavad Gita. Karma is action; this means that every action of this life affects the next one. The third path is Jhana, it is the Knowledge and the understanding and finally the fourth path is Yoga, which represents self-control and meditation.

Like everything in life, these four paths have advantages and disadvantages. I am now going to introduce the advantages of these paths. In the path of Blakh, the advantages are that we are very close to god and therefore we have something to hold onto, and that it gives each part a focus in life. For the path pf karma, the positive aspects are that we can explain the pain and the suffering and that you can find a cause to everything that happens to you. With regard to the path of Jhana, you realize that material things are not important, it gives a deeper understanding of life, and you go beyond the superficial. Finally, for the path of Yoga, you learn how to meditate and to self-control yourself, that means that you can face any difficult situation without losing your coolness.

In the other side, these four paths also have disadvantages. For example for the path of Black, since you are very close to God you cannot sea the real world and you are isolated. For the path of karma, because you have many expectations of your next life you are disappointed by the fact that there is nothing left to discover in the outer world. The disadvantages for the path of Jhana are that it is a very difficult path to follow and therefore you need a teacher (a guru), and it demands commitment. Moreover, for this path you do not see the real world. As a final point, the disadvantages of the path of yoga are that you become selfish because you just focus on yourself.

To concretize your aim you might meet several problems because you are confused, you do not know what to do, but in the other hand, you might find that it is easier to follow the rules that decide for yourself. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to follow these rules due to a lack of unity in the religion community.

Conclusion My opinion is divided because I think it is always useful to have something that can help you to achieve your goal but it is also good to choose by yourself. Therefore, I think that to concretize your aim you should follow some of the paths of Hinduism but not totally; you should also think for yourself.

For example, it is better not to follow completely the path of the Blakh because to win a gold medal you have concurrent and you cannot be isolated. Alternatively, for the path of Yoga it is not a good thing to focus only on yourself because you can learn from the experiences of the others.

Please note that this sample paper on the 4 paths of hinduism is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on the 4 paths of hinduism, we are here to assist you. Queen - or, as she would prefer to be remembered, King Hatshepsut was an astonishing woman. Brilliantly defying tradition, she became the female embodiment of a male role, dressing in men's clothes and even wearing a false beard. Hatshepsut was not one to sit back and wait for her nephew to age enough to take her place. As a favorite daughter of a popular pharaoh, and as a charismatic and beautiful lady in her own right, she was able to command enough of a following to actually take control as pharaoh. Hatshepsut, as a female, had many obstacles to overcome. There was always a threat of revolt, especially as her bitter nephew came of age. Using propaganda and keen political skills, she deftly jumped each hurdle she faced. To quell the fears of her people, she became a king in all images and relief's during her reign.

On the death of her father Thutmosis I, the young Hatshepsut, possibly only twelve years old, emerged from the obscurity of the women's palace to marry her half-brother Thutmosis II, and become queen consort of Egypt. During the reign of the supposedly sickly Thutmosis II it was Hatshepsut, the power behind the throne, who ruled Egypt '…the experience which she gained in the time of her father was of the greatest use to her, and her natural ability made her profit by it to the greatest'

The new consort Hatshepsut was now presented with the conventional queen's titles of kings Daughter, Kings Sister and Kings Great Wife, although her preferred title was always god's wife. She behaved in an exemplary fashion throughout her husbands reign. A stela now housed in Berlin, shows the immediate royal family at this time Thutmosis II stands to face the god Re while immediately behind him stands the senior lady, queen Ahmose. The queen consort Hatshepsut stands modestly behind both her mother and her husband in approved wifely fashion. She is dressed in a simple sheath dress and wearing a rather understated crown.

Thutmose III was about three years old when his father died at around 147 BC, so the young queen Hatshepsut was called upon to act as regent on behalf of her even younger stepson Thutmosis III. This in itself was not an unusual situation, and it was an accepted Egyptian practice that a widowed queen should rule for her minor son. Whatever her private feelings, Hatshepsut accepted her new role with good grace. Throughout the first couple of years of her stepson's rule she acted as a model queen regent, claiming only those titles to which she was entitled as the daughter and widow of a king and allowing herself to be depicted standing behind the new king in traditional queenly fashion. However, only five years later there had been a profound political change. By the end of year 7, Queen Hatshepsut had advanced from being the mere ruler of Egypt to becoming an acknowledged king. Help with essay on HatshepsutFrom that day on, she started to use the 'great names' which included the full titulary of a king of Egypt and which reflected some of the divine attributes of kingship. She was now the female Horus of fine gold, King of Upper and Lower Egypt Maatkare Khenmet-Amen Hatshepsut.

Please note that this sample paper on Hatshepsut is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Hatshepsut, we are here to assist you. The main theme of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is adventure. The adventures of Huck show different emotions and the different roads of life. Mark Twain, the author, uses setting, theme, imagery, satire, characterization, and other elements.

Satire is used of human nature when Huck sees Sherburn shoot Boggs, who everyone knows is harmless. When the angry mob goes to lynch Sherburn, he takes a stand on his porch. Sherburn then himself makes his speech. He accuses the men of being cowards. He says that no one really wants to be there and everyone is afraid. He goes on to say that they failed to bring a true man, someone to follow who is brave and has a purpose. After the end of the speech, the crowd disperses. The speech was so powerful that it made Huck think, I could a staid, if Id wanted to, but I didnt want to. Twain uses Sherburns speech to satirize the average man. Huck learns from this experience about the average man and his limitations. This is a constant theme throughout the book as Huck is always learning and playing on the nature of humans. Through the killing, the speech, and Huck's emotion, Twain used satire to portray all the details to create an astonishing way for Huck to show his thinking.

Characterization is an element that Twain used strongly to show what type of person Huck really was. In the beginning of the story, Huck had no aversion to slavery. In the middle he meets a slave and helps him escape to freedom. In the end, Huck has a totally different view of blacks. The slave's name is Jim. Huck's characterization is showed when Huck's teacher talks to both Huck and Jim and therefore creates the difference in the way Huck and Jim talk. This gives Huck character. In the book it is from pages two to five. Huck grows and matures while learning things through Jim. Huck discovers the evils of society, but also discovers his own moral values. Twain shows Huck's characterization through the story by Huck's changes. Huck becomes more mature while taking the steps into manhood.

The setting is a very important element used in this story. The novel is set it St. Petersburg, Missouri, a town on the Mississippi River. The setting is natural meaning it's in a real town, not a fictional spot made up just for the story. Twain uses setting to bring out the bittersweet reality of the town. During this time racism is still strong and present, however it isn't as bad as it was in the previous history. Twain makes the town create the strong feeling of voice through the way people talk and their actions done. The setting of when and where the story takes place makes all the other aspects of the story come true. Help with essay on "Huckleberry Finn"Mark Twain used basic element to create a masterpiece. Twain used characterization, satires, and setting very strongly throughout the whole book. The elements made the story what it really is. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading about people's life and their adventures. It was a great book and made me feel like I needed to go out and learn more through others.

A Quasi-Experiment

Abstract

Objective To determine the extent to which an intervention aimed at increasing client participation in their own care (?) improves outcomes in the treatment of recalcitrant chronic pain.

Order College Papers on Comparing the Effects of Pain Coping Interventions on Functioning and Quality of Life: A Quasi-Experiment

Participants Participants have experienced a variety of other treatments without success. They are referred by physicians to the "experimental" arm (Arm I), which is funded by public insurers; or to the "control arm (Arm II), which is not. Treatment is cognitive-behavioural therapy (?) in both arms; but Arm I also involves ….. (?)

Methodology Quasi-experimental design, pre-and-post study. Referrers are blinded as to differences in intervention style. Data collection is at enrolment, at discharge, and 6 months post-discharge. Data are entered into SPSS and compared using Student=s t-test or repeated measures ANOVA as appropriate. Variables include demographics, health status (SF-1), depression level (CES-D), a variety of pain management scales, employment status.

Outcome Measures Changes in health status, in limitations and level of activity, as indicated by the short for of the Medical Outcomes Survey (SF-1). Changes in use of pain relief techniques, as indicated by the Pain Relief Log (PRL). Degree of disability, as indicated by the Pain Disability Index b(PDI). Health services utilization. All data are collected at enrolment, discharge, and 6 months post-discharge

Results N=6; 58% male; mean age 46.1. By follow-up, there was a trend toward decreased use of emergency rooms for pain management (NS) in both arms. PDI declined from 4.7 to 6. in Arm I, and from 45.8 to 44.1 in Arm II. PRL declined from 16 to 11 in Arm I, and increased from 1 to 16 in Arm II; similarly, mental component scale scores from the SF-1 improved from 0.1 to 6.4 in Arm I and declined from 8.4 to .5 in Arm II. The Sf-1's physical component scale scores improved from 8.5 to 5.0 in Arm I and from 8.5 to 1.4 in Arm II.

Conclusion These results indicate that, even though clients= pain levels do not change, their abilities to function improve more substantially in the "experimental" arm. Thus, the intervention appears to produce the desired outcomes, and may merit further study.

It was the day of my 1th birthday when it happened. It was a warm, summer afternoon and I was lying comfortably on my bed with the cool morning breeze whisking onto my face from the open window. The smell of the fresh blueberry pancakes drifted into my nose as I began to rise out of bed. It was the day that I would be treated like a queen. The day I would get special care and attention. It was my kind of day.

"Come downstairs and eat your breakfast before it gets cold!!!" My mom hollered at me.

I raced down the stairs to the kitchen table and stuffed my mouth like there was no tomorrow. It being my birthday somehow made the pancakes a lot tastier than usual.

"So what do you want to do today?"

I usually spent my birthdays with my mother. My mother is my confidant. Unlike many girls I know this day and age, my mother and I get along fairly well. I always tell her what is on my mind, and she always takes the time to listen to me. I guess the reason why we are so close is because my grandmother was very strict. She never took the time and day to ask how a day at school was, or if she needed any help with her homework. And because of that, my mom was determined to have the closest relationship possible with her own daughter me.

"Let's go shopping!"

That day, my mother and I decided on going to the mall. Macy's was where it all started. I spotted a gorgeous jacket that I immediately fell in love with. But to my dissatisfaction, I came to realize that the jacket was worth $11 - in iAmerican moneyi. But even still, I pleaded my mom for it.

"My final word is NO, and that's that!"

After that incident, I came to not talk to my mother anymore. I was so furious with her that I didn't even care to speak to her. For the whole day, I ignored her and passed her dirty looks. I didn't feel comfortable, but I always came around to thinking about how she didn't get me the jacket.

The next day, me still being angered with my mother, I woke up to the sound of a phone call. It was a Monday and both my parents were at work. My two brothers were at college, so I was home alone. Still half asleep, I went to answer the phone. The phone call was from my mother's boss. She was wondering where my mother was. It was then that I saw my mother's car drive up into the driveway. Gripping onto a Macy's shopping bag, she came indoors. I immediately knew that it was my jacket. The one I've been craving since the first time my very eyes had laid eyes on it... Later on that day, my father sat me down and told me to take it easy on my mom. He told me how she was juggling two jobs, especially since the terror attack at September 11th. I hadn't realized, but now I understood why mom always went to work early and came back so late. She had used the money to buy me that jacket that should have been used to pay the bills. She took a day off from work just to spend a day with me and my selfish self, just to make my day special.

That day made me realize how much of a woman my mother really was. And to this day, I think twice before begging for a jacket worth $11. I never take her for granted.

A Chicago nightclub where twenty-one people were killed and 55 others injured in the rush to get to the only open door when a panic swept through a second-storey dance club at the Epitome restaurant. Witnesses say the panic broke out when security guards used pepper spray to break up a fight between two patrons on the dance floor of the Epitome nightclub.

There was only a narrow stairway leading down from the crowded club. Fire officials say they found locked and blocked doors at the club, as well, which were a factor in the deadly stampede. One eyewitness in the club said that when the pepper sprays where used, somebody shouted terrorist and that was what led to the stampede. Again one of the bouncers in the club said that this was not the first time the pepper spray was used.

What led to the stampede was when somebody shouted terrorist after the pepper spray was sprayed. Remember that the terrorist alert was at the high peak, and people were scared. Any unusual movement will be said to be of terrorism. That was why people got scared immediately they heard terrorist. Again, the club should be held accountable for the deaths of the people for using a lock on the emergency exits. They should make sure that there is no lock in any of the doors.

We all hate rules. Admit it. While rules are the very thread this world hangs by today, you still never hear many people say, "Gee, rules are cool." Even some of the very politicians who plan and support our nation's law books seem to wander from what they should enforce. Sure, many feel being the brown-noser, do-good, teacher's pet kinda citizen is not relevant. This is true. But the fact remains Rules exist for a reason!

Among my list of rules I'm using to support this argument is (sorry, kids) Honor Your Mother and Father. For one thing, their rules are for your own welfare. I remember a time long ago when my mom told me not to go to the fish hatchery down the street because it was guarded by a dog. Being the mischievous child I was, I ignored her advice. Not even 0 minutes later I had a rabid dog gnawing at my butt. Anyway…whatever your parents order is usually ordered out of love. Their rules are guidelines to keep you safe and out of danger's way!

I'll admit that even I, a rookie driver, am guilty of the most abused law in our society today No Speeding! When you speed, you run the risk of getting caught (can you say duh?!). Sure, the studies say that only 1% of all speeders are actually caught and ticketed, but goodness knows you'd end up paying some bogus fines! Also, even simple offenses like speeding do affect your records. Not only that, it affects the people around you. Imagine, if you will, yourself at the wheel. The speed limit is 70 on the interstate, but you keep pushing to 0. If someone in front of you were to spontaneously put the [brake] pedal to the metal, think of what could happen when you couldn't stop soon enough car damage (to say the least), cargo damage, damage to the people inside that vehicle... 'nuff said. Of course, there are many different scenarios for speeding accidents.

My last example is one we constantly hear of and will till the end of time Don't Murder. Something that seems obvious to most people (except the sick, twisted people who actually do murder in cold blood) is that you will suffer the consequences. These include guilt (once again to say the least), jail time, and sometimes even an execution. Even if you get off because of a technicality or some stroke of luck, anyone with their head screwed on straight (or close to straight) will have to live with the guilt. Also, keep in mind that all living things are God's! Nature is such a beauty, but now you can see how entire biomes are being obliterated by mans' effects on earth. Earth is in a downward spiral down the toilet for cryin out loud! And if I really cared to, I could make an entire essay on mankind's negative effects on Mother Nature.Do my essay on Rules for a Reason CHEAP !

In conclusion, I cannot stress this enough There is a good reason to support all rules and laws (most, anyway; another essay idea, eh?). They are made to keep everyone safe and sound, and to keep the peace. One can use the famous "Free Country" alibi, but that's not a good reason to violate someone else's freedom. So go ahead. Be a brown-noser. Do good. Be the teacher's pet. Rules are cool.

Please note that this sample paper on Rules for a Reason is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Rules for a Reason, we are here to assist you. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effects of sugar water on a potato after 4 hours. Three different solutions were given to perform this experiment, distilled water, 0% water 10% sugar solution, and 80% water 0% sugar solution.

My hypothesis, that within 4 hours, I think that the potato core with the most sugar in its solution would turn out to be the biggest because of the density of the sugar, the potato core in the distilled water would turn out smallest, was correct. I know this because my hypothesis was tested in our experiment.

On the first day of this experiment, all of the potato cores were matching in size, mass, diameter, and volume. They were 5 millimeters in length, 1 millimeters in diameter, 4 milliliters in volume, and 4. grams in mass. On the second day, Core A stayed the same on all measurements except for its mass, changing by .7 is now grams in mass. Core B gained millimeters in its length, 1 millimeter in its diameter, and it had lost 1.5 grams in its mass. its new measurements were 7 millimeters in length, 14 millimeters in diameter, 4 milliliters in volume, and 4. grams in mass. Core C gained 5 mm in its length, 1 mm in its diameter, 1 milliliters in volume, and it had lost .7 g in mass. Its new measurements are 0 millimeters length, 5 millimeters diameter, 5 milliliters volume, and 5 grams mass.

Cheap Custom Essays on this is my smart essay

Many things could have caused errors in this experiment. On the first day of the lab, after removing the cores from the potato, the cores were very moist, and after measuring the mass of the cores, much of that moisture could have evaporated into the air and the cores could have gotten much lighter. The solutions could have been too shallow for the cores and the cores would have not been fully exposed to it. If any of the water in the solutions had evaporated before being placed into the cup, they would not have stayed at the correct ratio of water and sugar which would then lead to incorrect data.

Advertising is a plague that has swept every medium known to man. Greek tavern owners pioneered the art of advertising using simple relieves to quench any passerby's visual thirst. Since then, advertisements have taken many forms and continue to harass with 000 ads a day, magazine readers, radio listeners, television viewers, and Internet surfers are continuously bombarded with useless advertisements. People are now paying to purchase advertisements, some have become walking billboards promoting popular designers and styles. Television has become polluted with endless commercials, during a half hour segment, nine minutes of your favorite show has been replaced with commercials.

Advertisers use clever ways to trick an audience into purchasing a product. A magazine ad for diapers uses some avant-garde advertising techniques. The use of a popular icon captures the eye of the targeted audience. An icon is a product's mascot, it is a cartoon that humanizes the products and is easily relatable to, the Luvs icon is Barney the Dinosaur, he helps the consumers relate the product with a loveable cartoon that is associated with child care. Barney is synonymous with effeminacy and gentility; who better to promote a product that promises a gentle cloth-like feel.

The advertisers weren't convinced that one technique would suffice their hunger for consumers. The advertisers used positioning as an under-handed way to convince the audience to purchase the product. Positioning is the placement of an object to stimulate thoughts and associate the product with its location. In this advertisement, the product is placed next to a dainty undergarment; this alludes to the diapers cloth-like fabric. The diaper is also set against a blue sky with fluffy clouds; the clouds also advert to the diapers softness and comfortable fabric.

The Luvs advertising campaign is generally targeting young housewives who want their children to be pleased with their diapers. Grounded For Life

It was the beginning of the summer and the days were long and hot. The day started out like most of the days in the summer. It was about eight o'clock I could feel the cool air coming through my bedroom window. I got up and washed my face and brushed my teeth and headed down stairs. I came down and found list on the table like every day. There was something different about this list though. There was a difference in length two pages instead of the usual one page list of chores.

After getting some breakfast I headed out to start my chores. The temperature was starting to rise at a rapid rate. The list of chores consisted of clean my room, cut the grass, rake the yard for grass clippings, burn the trash, vacuum the downstairs, and clean the bathroom. The list of chores was supposed to be done before my mom came home from work. The first thing I started to do was the cleaning part of the list. That took a total of two hours. Then the thought of watching TV filled my mind. I turned on the TV on and fell asleep watching MTV.

The kitchen door slammed shut and woke me up from a dead sleep. I thought to my self this couldn't be a good thing. My mom returned home from a tiring morning of work to see the yard work was not done yet. For the first time that summer I was in some deep trouble. The thought of being grounded for life never crossed my mind until she started saying how I newer do any thing around the house and that I would be grounded for the rest of the summer. That's when it all started. My temper got the best of me. The house was filled with cussing for about a thirty minute time period.

That made me grounded for sure. The thought of spending the whole summer sitting in my room sucked. That meant that there would be no work for the summer, that thought was nice but there would be no money to spend.

Two weeks went by while I was permitted to do nothing. I thought that my parents would let me off the hook after two weeks of being grounded but that wasn't the case. The whole summer was a waste and that to me was like being grounded for life. That summer was the worst ever. That summer changed my outlook on doing things my parents asked me to do. Although I was only grounded for the summer it felt like a lifetime.

Like most typical Asian kids, I was pressured by my parents to learn the piano at a very young age. I practiced diligently and I was decent for my age, but it wasn't something I particularly enjoyed. However, it has provided me with a strong foundation of basic music theory and technique, which I applied to my later violin studies. For a few years in middle school, I excelled at the violin, but when introduced to yet an even "better" instrument, I couldn't resist the temptation to switch once more to learn the viola. It was through this instrument that I really began to discover myself through music I practiced because I wanted to, not because it was something I was compelled to do by my parents, and consequently, I have won several competitions and scholarships through that instrument. This year I have decided to try something different rather than performing, I have decided to teach. I currently coach the younger orchestras of Tucson Junior Strings every Saturday, as well as teach basic music theory to aspiring musicians. Teaching is fun!

Besides music, I volunteer regularly outside of school. During all of my high school summers, I have volunteered at Tucson Medical Center in departments ranging from Information Systems, Unit 00, and Breast Screening. There, I worked with computers, women, children, and senior citizens regularly. I also volunteer at Epoch Senior Living for senior citizens where I provide them with music as well helping with more basic tasks such as serving food and changing bed sheets and linen. But most importantly, I have also discovered the most important aspect of my service at the assisted living center of being born with an ear! Many of the tenents are visited by their loved ones only once or twice a year for the other 64 days, it can get very lonely with nobody to talk to, and just my mere presence helps alleviate that emptiness for the brief hour or so that we may talk. With an average of sixty to seventy years of added life experience, I find most of their stories to be very entertaining as well as refreshing. Let's face it one can only listen to stuff about cars, boys and clothing for so long before tiring of the same subjects prevalent in the school environment.

IRAQ CRISIS

FOR

I am supportive of the war on Iraq as Saddam Hussein is an evil dictator who should not have being able to gain power. What he does to the general public is disgusting and in-humane. Also he is defiant to the U.N. (United Nations) and has failed to destroy "the weapons of mass destruction" which he has in his possession. After years of dispute within the U.N George W Bush pushed for action in Iraq. Finally on the twentieth of March 00 George W Bush and his allies (John Howard and Tony Blaire) issued the attack against Saddam's regime.

The main reason I am for the war is due to the fact that Saddam has the power to kill millions of people, also that he does not treat the people of his country with the respect they deserve. Also to his family and Saddam the law does not exist. An example of that is with his oldest son Suedai who has substantial evidence against him for crimes such as rape, yet no punishment has being dealt to him. This is not away for a law to run. All these problems should be fixed. Help with essay on IraqEvidence for all these problems has being shown in the media. And this is evidence enough for me.

Against

The main and most important reason I am against the war on Iraq is because even with every caution the soldiers take they will still kill innocent Iraqi civilians. Also the war will or may bring terrorism to Australia. The war will also destroy the civilians houses, there work, there schools and there livelihood. This will cause famine and maybe also a civil war between the Iraq's towns and cities. The war may even cause disputes within the U.N and from that World War three could start.

Most of my reasons have come from me sitting down and looking at each possible outcome. Even though they might not happen, what if they do, tats another problem with this war there are to many 'what ifs.' And even though America, Britain and Australia are the most powerful in this war but something most likely will go wrong and an example of that would be Saddam being more powerful then they anticipated. Then people will die, heroes to their country will die, and to us they are just people but to others they are friends, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, nephews, nieces or cousins. And only if its one person in the hearts of the loved ones it will be more.
