In Mommy's Little Hamlet, the given circumstances given by the playwright are that Mikey has received the lead part in his school's production of Hamlet. His mother is trying to get him to rehearse his lines for the play so he could be the best "little Hamlet" there is. Mikey is a very energetic nine-year-old boy. Mikey is also a huge fan of Pokemon cartoons as many young children are and he will not be satisfied unless he gets to watch this show. His mother is very controlling and tries to live her crushed acting dreams vicariously through her son.

Mikey's super-objective through out the whole play is to go and watch Pokemon. His beat objectives are to please his mother, to show discontent, to calm his mother, to be sincere, to change the subject, to be humble, and to get the monologue done. All of these coincide with the overall super objective.

The main external obstacle for Mikey is his mother. He wants to go and watch Pokemon and have fun while his mother wants him to say his lines the way she would have when she was in High School. The internal conflict that he is faced with is that of being a child and he not wanting to focus on the things his mother would like him to. He tries to overcome these obstacles by appeasing his mother and saying his lines. He just goes through them the first few times but then he realizes that in order to get what he wants he must say it the way he thinks his mother would like to hear it so that she can leave him alone. He manipulates the situation to make it best suit his needs as any nine year old would. Essentially he does it the way his mother he wants to hear it and gets to watch Pokemon.

My experience from creating this character has been very interesting. Being an eighteen year old that is focused on growing up as fast as possible, it was fun to go back and construct my life at the age of nine. In order to do this I relied on my memories as well as observing my younger cousins at Thanksgiving dinner and how they acted in certain situations. I focused mostly on their mannerisms and the way they carried themselves. From collaborating on this project, I see that the process of creating is a very cohesive task.
